"...I think... that escalated... quickly..." Lover mumbled quietly into my the crook of my neck, earning a snicker from me.
"Mhm." I hummed, relaxing a bit to get comfortable. "Was that okay?" I asked, wanting to make sure she was completely honest.
"Mhm. Very okay. Ultra-okay..." she mumbled, already half asleep.
"You're tired?" I asked, already assuming she would fall asleep soon.
Hey, serves her right, I did kinda, like, rock her world.
"mmhmm..." she hummed.
I could hear her breath evening out against my neck, then her body slowly fell limp.
The small girl opened her eyes about half an hour later, and stretched out with a little groan, then fell back into me.
"Good morning. Thirsty?" I asked, sitting up.
She crawled up into my lap, clearly not wanting to be away from me, and gave a little shy nod.
I wrapped an arm around her waist and grabbed the glass of water, handing it to her.
Around 3-5 seconds later, half of it was gone.
Damn.
"...Hungry?" I asked, softening my tone a bit.
She shook her head, as expected, and buried her face in the crook of my neck.
I grabbed her chin, pulling her away.
"Nope, you gotta eat, baby girl," I said, grabbing the bowl of cereal and a spoon.
She sighed, falling more against me.
I set the bowl in her lap, adjusting both of us to be comfortable.
"...I don't want to..." Lover said quietly, her voice cracking a little.
"I know. But you have to. It's okay," I replied, trying to be comforting.
She whimpered, sighing and reaching for the spoon.
Yes!
Then, her hand retracted and went to fidget with her other one.
No!
I reached for the spoon, scooping up some cereal and offering it out to her.
She hesitantly opened her mouth, taking it.
I could see her chewing it and swallowing it uncomfortably, so I gave her a little smile.
"I don't wanna eat it all..." Lover whimpered, burying her face in my neck again.
"I know. I know, you don't have to. Let's try... 5 more bites? Then we can try again later," I offered.
She sighed, taking her head out of the crook of my neck and looking at me.
I offered another bite out, which she took, albeit mechanically.
She managed the goal I had set, even though she was practically on the verge of tears.
"Hey. Good job, you're okay. It's okay," I cooed, setting the bowl aside and moving my hand to her waist.
