July 2024. Rome.
My feet were glued to the ground.
My heart pounded like a maniac horse. My eyes begun to tear.
There was no way it was him. That boy. A boy who was now in his mid-twenties, with shorts, black adidas shoes, and an old money type of vibe.
I grabbed the stone wall behind me, my fingers curled at the rocks, trying to pinch them out of the wall.
My breath begun to speed. My mind begun to spin. All the memories, the kisses, the hugs and the goodbyes all came rushing back at me. All the love and the pain that we both had lived through rushed into my skin and made it pink.
How long has it been? More importantly, does he know I am here?
My hands clung harder into that stone wall, as if my entire life depended on it.
"Señorita! Are you all right?" A waiter asked me. I couldn't answer. I couldn't think, I couldn't breathe.
My mind was elapsing, my body collapsing.
I stared at the boy who once held my heart. As my grandma used to say, the mind does not forget what time can erase.
And suddenly, all I could see was how those eyes hidden behind that perfect freckled skin came rushing at me as I slammed into blackness.
