Her POV:
We pull up to Tannyhill, the imposing structure standing silent and still under the moonlight. The car engine purrs to a halt, and for a moment, we sit there in the silence, neither of us making a move to get out. The weight of the night's events hangs between us, but there's also a sense of safety being here, away from the chaos of earlier.
Rafe finally breaks the silence. "Come on, lets get inside," he says, his voice soft but firm. I nod, and we both step out of the car.
The air is cool and crisp, a welcome relief from the tension we've been carrying. As we walk towards the house, our strides are the only sound in the otherwise quiet night. The lights are dim inside, casting long shadows that dance across the walls as we make our way through the entryway.
"Looks like we're the only ones here," I say softly, my voice barely above a whisper. The vastness of Tannyhill always makes me feel small, like a guest in someone else's grand story.
"Yeah, Ward and Rose are probably still at that party," Rafe replies, leading me up the grand staircase. His hand brushes against mine, a small gesture that grounds me in this moment. He turns back to smile at me as we walk in silence.
As we reach the hallway near the bedrooms, a door creaks open, and Wheezy's head pops out. Her bright eyes widen in surprise as she sees us.
"Hey, Rafe, Y/N," she greets us with a grin. "Did you guys have fun tonight?"
"Yeah, something like that," Rafe says, ruffling her hair affectionately. "Ward and Rose still out?"
"Yep, they're going to be late. They dropped me off here like 30 minutes ago and told me not to wait up." she replies, leaning against the doorframe. "How was the bonfire?"
"It was... eventful," I say, trying to keep my tone light.
Wheezy chuckles. "Well, goodnight guys." She gives us a little wave before disappearing back into her room.
We continue down the hallway, and I can feel the day's exhaustion catching up to me. The grandeur of Tannyhill feels almost surreal, like stepping into a different world. Rafe stops in front of his room and opens the door.
"Do you want to use the shower?" he asks, noticing my weariness. "My shower is far better than the one down the hall." He adds as he pushes through the door.
I nod, grateful for the offer. "A shower sounds amazing, actually. Thanks," I say, grabbing some fresh clothes from my bag. As I step into the bathroom. I turn on the shower, letting the steam envelop me as I strip off my clothes and step under the hot water. The tension in my muscles begins to melt away, and I take a moment to just enjoy the sensation.
After what feels like a blissful eternity, I step out of the shower, feeling refreshed and renewed. I wrap myself in one of the fluffy towels and take a deep breath, savoring the moment of calm. Once I'm dressed, I head back into Rafe's room, where he's lying on his bed, scrolling through his phone.
"Feeling better?" he asks, sitting up with a smile.
"Much better," I reply, sitting down on the edge of the bed. "Thanks for letting me use your shower."
"Anytime," he says, putting his phone down. "You look more relaxed already."
We sit in comfortable silence for a few moments, the events of the day feeling like a distant memory. I glance around his room, my eyes landing on a framed photo of him and his family. As I take in the surroundings, I start to feel a bit nervous about what's next. I shift slightly, unsure of what to say or do.
Rafe notices my hesitation. "You know, you can stay here as long as you need," he says softly. "There's plenty of room, and I want you to feel safe."
I look at him, relieved but also a bit unsure. "Are you sure? I don't want to impose."
