How is this fair...How is it that I'm the one who gets this curse...I just want it to end....
I look over to a nearby bench at the park and walk over, sitting down. "What...has my life come to..." I said softly, gritting my teeth and looking at my hands. I see the blood, the blood of all those I wronged.

--5 years prior, Ajax's retelling mixed with 3rd person--

The sun was out, it's bright orange haze shining on a beautiful town. I like the summer, It reminds me of simple life.
I never remembered much of home, but I was an unlucky guy in a lucky household of skilled bounty hunters.
My dad was famous for slaying the lightning phenomenon that brought hell in some town in the west while my mom was the best cook you've ever seen. I was unlucky, as I stated earlier, too 'dangerous' for school, whatever that meant, and too inexperienced for the outside. I learned most of my history and dangers of the outside through books that my dad tried hiding from me in the bookshelves of our reading areas.
--
Some birds flew past the manor that housed Ajax's family, one of the birds landed on a branch just outside of one young Ajax's room window and he smiled. "Hey little guy.." he said softly, watching the bird fly away after hearing his voice. He was never good with animals. but enjoyed them all the same.

"Ajax! come down" His dad called out. "Coming!" Ajax replied quickly. He put his usual attire on and flew down the stairs. It was a black on brand bounty hunter outfit with a skull branded on the shirt. Ajax thought it was a real outfit from a famous bounty hunter but it was simply a costume with props.
Ajax sat down at the kitchen table downstairs, looking at his dad who was in the process of putting on some gloves. His dad looked at him and said "Ajax, it's about time you become a bounty hunter.." to which Ajax was forming stars in his eyes. Ajax always wanted to be a bounty hunter and to see his father so willing to make him one was like a dream come true.
He was ecstatic, leaning up from his chair " When do we start? What weapon do I get? What beasts will I slay?"
His father chuckled softly "Just come on, put these on..." He threw Ajax a couple hunting gloves. Ajax put them on, looking down at them "Wow..." he said. When he looked up, there was an old flintlock in front of him.
"This is a weapon I picked just for you..." His father smiled and motioned him to follow as he went outside. Ajax gripped the flintlock and felt a strange feeling.
He looked at the flintlock pistol and then at the door, eventually following his father outside.

-- Ajax's perspective mixed with 3rd person, 2 months into bounty hunter training--

I wish that my dad told me how scary the outside REALLY was Instead of those lousy books that downplayed everything. I nearly died trying to kill this giant toad and this was in the FIRST month. Why did my father think it was a good Idea to send me to kill a GIANT TOAD?
To be honest though, second month is a breeze. Thank goodness It was, because I finally got the hang of this flimsy old flintlock that my father gave me and have been able to kill some small fry like bears and deer.
I sat down on a log, looking at my flintlock. Its so busted up and worn down, I'm surprised it was able to even kill a fly. The exterior...It's outdated, well...obviously but, I don't know why though, I feel a bit of power emanating from it. What did my father give to me exactly? Is this some magic flintlock pistol? I mean..cool, I can at least slay a few beasts with it. Other than that, this is pretty run of the mill as far as training goes. He isn't working me to death..thank god..and I feel different with every training session, so it must be working.
Today, I stand in front of another giant toad. It's as ugly as you think it is, and smells how you think it would too. I take aim at it and shoot. Just like the last one, it barely does anything to it and the toad becomes aggravated. "Oh sh-" I dodged an attack, the giant thing just flung its tongue at me and nearly made me It's lunch...I need to focus.
I shake my head of dirt and take another shot at it's big face, the shot seemed to...actually damage it. "It's weak point is the head?" I blurted out. Another whip of the toad's tongue sent me flying into a tree.
I stood up and grumbled, "Okay, ugly toad". I twirled the flintlock in my finger and paused, the flintlock looked to be...powering up? I recoil a little and aim it again, taking another shot at the toad. I slowly turn to face it. It stood there, staring at me. I DIDN'T kill it? this lousy piece of-...It fell to the ground. I blinked twice, looking down at the flintlock. What...is this thing...
--
Ajax looked up as his dad emerged, clapping slowly. "Ajax, you did it. I knew you had a..special power.."
Ajax blinked twice at his father and said "Huh..what-?!"
His father sighed and said "I gave you that gun because...Bounty hunters CREATE their weapons. We have a certain power within that can be worked for or...In your case, born with. It's easier when born into a family of bounty hunters rather than working hard to be granted that power, people who are forced onto the latter don't even get much power granted....but you..." He looked at Ajax and the powered up flintlock. "You have power that I've never seen before"
Ajax couldn't help but scratch his head " So...I have immense power?"
His father nodded "Yes..please use it wisely."
Ajax rolled his eyes "What a cliché thing to say, of course I will."

-- Ajax's perspective, 2 hours later--

I sat in my room, looking at the flintlock "Wow..I'm really like..a powerful guy? cool.."
How could I NOT have known that, I'm the luckiest guy ever. I have the power to change lives, and all I need to do is harness the power and hone the skills. I stood up, the second month was almost over and I killed my second huge toad, I intend to kill more for the experience so, I hatched an idea....

The venture was long and tiring but I found a swamp. I was a long way from home but It didn't matter. I had to learn as much as I could.
"Hey! Ugly toads!" I called out, they didn't understand me but were drawn to my voice. The closer they got, the more I realized how much of a dumbass I was for provoking them.
My eyes widened, and I experienced my first true 'oh shit' moment. Three Giant toads hopped over to me.
I dashed back, jumping back and arcing my land against a leaning tree. I called them in THEIR territory, this is the dumbest thing I've ever done. I gritted my teeth and readied myself. I wanted this, so I'm going to get my worth from this.
One toad made the first move, and I shot it dead in one shot. I...killed it in one shot. "I DID-" little did I remember the other two giant toads, one whipped its tongue and I was sent flying.
I stood up and wiped my mouth...blood...I need to remember that I can die. I jumped back into action, taking shots at the two toads. My reflexes..seemed to be getting sharper as dodging their tongues became easier and easier..God I hated these creatures, I took a shot at one, wounding it greatly. I felt good but forgot about the other one as it's tongue came whipping at me. I narrowly dodged into a tree, hitting my head against it roughly which made me feel a bit dizzy....A bit dizzy...I took another shot but It did...nothing? My dizziness must be clouding my shots..I cant even aim straight.
I looked at the toad who was towering over me, Is this how I go? someone with so much potential? No, I want to die to something that will put my name in every town. I grabbed some dirt and threw it into the Toad's eye, causing it to lean back and giving me a window to regain my stance.
Before I could shoot it though, something sliced the giant toad in half and grabbed me. "You were beyond reckless, kid." the voice said. "Dad..?" I called out softly, seconds away from passing out. Before I could get an answer, I actually did pass out.
