Late November in California meant that the temperature dipped to a steady 70 degrees. Olive did not like the cold. She found it annoying most of the time.
But she did like hanging out with Lexi. So here she was, waiting at Philz Coffee, while the blonde got their orders.
She stared at the ground, kicking a loose rock around with her sneakers. Finally, she felt a hand on her shoulder and she looked up at Lexi who gave her a soft smile.
"One black coffee, two sugars for you Ms. Pasqualina."
Olive rolled her eyes. "Thanks Lex."
The blonde grinned even wider, her long hair falling over her shoulder. She pushed it back, and Olive's eyes traced over the slimmer of her collarbone. Her shirt, a red blouse dipped low enough that Olive could see the top of her white tank top.
She blushed, looking away. Lexi didn't seem to care, or notice. She bumped her hip into Olive's, pointing with her loose hand at W 8th Street.
"C'mon. Let's go walk around the block." Olive took a sip of her coffee, letting the hot liquid settle in her stomach before she nodded. They walked together, side by side, Lexi excitedly rambling about the new audition sides she had received.
Normally, Olive hated it when people talked about auditions. She had enough of that from Wren, and from living in the Palm Woods, but when Lexi did it... you could so clearly see and hear her passion that it made it almost endearing.
"The character seems really cool y'know? And besides, getting to play a werewolf? Move over Taylor Lautner, I'm taking your place!"
Olive snorted. "You're really excited for this one huh?"
"Yeah. I mean..." Lexi's face dipped into an expression Olive hadn't seen before. Almost like she was sad. "I haven't had an audition in a couple of weeks. I know I wanted to do modelling, but right now it's the acting stuff that's getting me paid."
"So you're giving up your dream?" Olive asked, and Lexi vehemently denied it, shaking her head as she took a quick sip of her peppermint mocha latte. "No. I'm just..." She paused, her nose screwing up in a way, "I'm giving myself permission to have different options."
Huh, Olive thought. She had never considered that before. Giving herself permission to have different options. Her mind slipped to the reminder of her parents' request and she pouted, taking another sip of her drink. So far, Logan was the only person who knew about it.
She hadn't even told Wren yet. The thought of doing that made her stomach churn in anxiety. Olive didn't want to live with her parents. It hadn't worked in the past, so why would it work now?
But there was still a chance it could. Maybe they had genuinely changed. Grown. Maybe now, they could be good enough for her.
Lexi's hand waving in front of her face made Olive snap out of her head. "Sorry." She said, an embarrassed smile on her face.
"It's okay. Something on your mind?" Lexi asked, and Olive nodded. "Just family stuff. You know how it is."
Lexi nodded. "Yeah. If you ever want to talk about it though..." Her words trailed off and Olive gave her a thin lipped smile.
