As she stared into the voidless paradox of what was now Viktor, Celeste started to wonder how she got here. Viktor was supposed to be— he was going to be okay. He promised her, he promised that he would be fine this time. What went so wrong?
Well, her sister went wrong— Jinx ruined everything. Jinx ruined her life and Celeste still didn't have the guts to say she hated her own flesh and blood.
"Viktor, my love, wake up, will you?"
Celeste whispered her prayers that he would wake up; it was null and void. she sighed on her way back to the desk, where she slept most days, if not every day.
Celeste was past the delusional thoughts of her sleep, she could have sworn she had heard Viktor' voice calling out her name.
"Celeste, why are you sleeping on the desk?"
She hummed her tired reply "Shh, need sleepy time..."
The voice of Viktor chuckled wearily, "Celeste, wake up. Please? I still need help."
It was then that Celeste realized that it wasn't her imagination– it was Viktor, her Viktor. She rushed to fix her look. (weird, she thought, how that was the first thing on her mind). She fixed up her perpetually ruined hair, finally turning around to face him.
"I heard you–" he mused, "my love."
Celeste's skin burned a red only matched by a rose– "wh- you didn't really... how could you-? uh-"
"It's okay, Celeste." (goddamnit, Viktor. Celeste was caught up in her own mind again. You and your stupidly charming accent). "You thought I was dead, didn't you?"
her usually bright blue eyes, dulled by the chaos of her life, overflowed with oncoming tears. she smiled, although painfully, "yeah, idiot. we all– we all thought you were a goner, for sure."
"You need not worry," he carefully grabbed his cane with one hand, wiping his lab partner's tears with the other. "I survived another day."
"thank God for that, jeez–"
"not God, my dear. Hextech."
Celeste sniffled with a sad smirk, "figure of speech, silly."
"oh–"
laughing tearfully, Celeste relished in this moment, in Viktor. There was absolutely nothing that could ruin this.
"Hey, Lestie? i need help with th–"
oh, but of course there was always something. Jayce.
"Lestie...?"
Viktor had failed to realize the closeness of his lab partners in his absence. He seemed to already despise it.
"What, Jayce? kinda busy, y'know." she held Viktor's hand to her cheek, keeping him there. she motioned to the man who had defied death, yet again.
"You guys want a minute alone, huh? no funny business–"
"...Jayce, I know where you sleep. do not test me." Celeste glared at her friend with just enough threat for him to back off.
"i'm just saying-"
"You do say too much." Viktor grumbled, finally putting his two cents into this meaningless conversation.
"Enough of him, Vik." Celeste dropped her voice to a whisper, "you're back."
"I'm back..." the sickly man repeated, "I'm back."
