It was the biggest day of my life. I had arrived home from the science fair with the thousand-dollar grand prize. I honestly thought everyone would have been excited or happy for me but it was the opposite.
I came home to be yelled at for staying out too late. When I tried to tell them what happened, they told me to go to my room. If I had told them about the money, they probably would have stolen my money.
After an hour in my room, my older sister arrived. I went to the door and listened carefully to see if there was any yelling... which there wasn't. In fact, no one said a single thing.
It sickened me. I began to weep. Something inside of me was triggered. I ran outside of my room and out of the house.
No one noticed.
I was lucky.
I began to run to the nearest bridge with an ache in my heart. The thoughts of everything that they did to me kept repeating. I couldn't take it anymore.
After about an hour of running, I reached the bridge. There was only one thing I could do.
"Hey," someone shouted. "What are you doing? You're not going to jump are you?"
I turned to face the person with tears still falling down my face.
"You weren't thinking about committing suicide, were you?"
"I- I don't know," I fell to the floor. "I honestly don't know."
"Hey, hey, hey. Don't cry," the girl walked over. " There is so much more to live for so don't do anything bad."
"How do you know? You don't know what I go through."
"You're Elle, right? A girl whose always in her sister's shadow?"
"Yes, but... how do you know that?"
"It doesn't matter."
"Yes it does," I shouted and began to climb onto the ledge of the bridge.
"Do you really want to go that badly," she asked. "If so, I have an alternative option."
I stood on the ledge and turned to face her. "I highly doubt that."
She reached her hand out to me, "Come on. I know a better way. A way that no one can find you."
I stood there, hesitantly for a few minutes. She stood there, staring at me.
"Fine. I'll go with you," I jumped off of the ledge and walked to her. "You convinced me."
"Great. "I'm-"
A shot was fired and the girl disappeared. I sat down looking at the spot that she once stood at.
"You really shouldn't trust people you meet near death. They can erase your existence or cause you endless pain," a boy began to walk towards me. "However, there are exceptions." He reached a hand out to me. "Are you ok? She didn't hurt you, did she?"
I grabbed his hand and stood up. "No," I shook my head. "She didn't hurt me."
"That's good."
"What-"
"Did she try anything? Anything at all?"
"Explain try."
"Convince you to go anywhere?"
"Well, yes but-"
"You're coming with me then."
"Wa- Wait," I stuttered. "What's going on?"
"Do you trust me?"
"I- I don't know who you are."
The noise of a shot echoed through the bridge.
"Do you trust me," he asked again.
The sound of voices were making their way towards us.
"Damn. We're too late," he opened up his watch. "Just come with me."
He grabbed my hand and we were transported out of the world I knew so well.
