Mayumi clung to him, her tears subsiding slightly as she rested her head on his shoulder. Izumi, who had been sitting quietly in the corner, stood up, ready to go with them.

Together, Norio, Mayumi, and Izumi made their way out of the room, heading toward the city hospital where their mother was waiting.

**Hospital Passage - Outside the ICU**

Izumi, Mayumi, Asahi, Norio, and Jack sat silently in the cold, sterile hallway outside the ICU, the tension almost palpable. Both Mayumi and Izumi had been crying, their faces streaked with tears, while Asahi sat with his head bowed, his expression unreadable. Jack leaned against the wall, his usual stoic demeanor barely masking the worry etched into his face.

They were all waiting-waiting for the doctor to emerge with news about Zeo and Hiroto.

Footsteps echoed down the passage as Ren and Ayumu approached. Ren's sharp gaze fell on Jack first. "We heard Joseph is waiting in his car downstairs," Ren said quietly. "He says he'll only come up if the news is good. He doesn't have the strength to face anything else."

Jack nodded slightly, understanding Joseph's reluctance to hear bad news.

Ren turned his attention to Mayumi and Izumi, who were still sniffling. His voice softened, though his words were pointed. "Look at you two," he began. "Crying won't change anything. What, is your whole world going to end if Zeo dies? You think that's how it works?"

Izumi wiped her eyes and looked up at him, confused, while Mayumi continued to sob.

Ren continued, his tone turning more critical. "Zeo-she was weak, wasn't she? She wasn't perfect in raising you two. Right, Izumi? Right, Mayumi?"

Izumi sniffed and nodded slowly, though her tears had stopped. Asahi glanced up but said nothing, though his eyes revealed the tension he held inside. Ren turned his attention to him next. "And you, Asahi. If Hiroto doesn't make it, is your world going to end too?"

A faint, bitter smile crept onto Asahi's face. He let out a weak chuckle, acknowledging Ren's harsh words without fully agreeing.

Mayumi, however, still cried softly, her stubbornness preventing her from letting go of her emotions. Ren observed her, his gaze hardening. He sighed, then spoke again, more direct this time. "Mayumi, you're becoming less confident every day. I can see it."

Mayumi wiped her tears quickly and shot a defiant look at Ren. "I am confident," she muttered, her voice shaky but insistent.

Ren's eyes flashed with irritation. "Oh, really?" he snapped, raising his voice. "Have you ever talked to Norio about what happens when you lose confidence? Last time it happened to him, I told his superior to strip him of his captainship. I can do the same to you. Don't think I won't."

Norio clenched his fists, anger flashing in his eyes. He opened his mouth to protest, but Jack quickly stepped in, placing a firm hand on Norio's shoulder, silently telling him to hold back.

Mayumi's face flushed with embarrassment, Ren's words cutting deep. She hesitated, biting her lip, and then finally smiled awkwardly, trying to save face. "I'm sorry, sir," she said quietly. "It won't happen again."

Her voice was weak, and she knew it, but she fell silent, her stubbornness finally giving way.

The hallway returned to its uneasy quiet, the only sound the distant beeping of machines from the ICU. All they could do now was wait for the doctor's news.
