──── Bring the ready-made questions! - That was all she got in reply.
She sighed, not knowing whether to celebrate or not. Her only certainty at the moment was her return on Friday, her last hope for the Singhs.
Barney grumbled for them to start walking again, and so she did, continuing down the lonely street and making her way to her house. She might have been worried about the questions, and she was for a few seconds, until she remembered how she had already prepared for this before she had even knocked on their door the first time.
Pippa had it all planned out, had already arranged a few more interviews and everything would go perfectly. Her only problem until then would be telling her family, she was surprised enough when her mother didn't come into her room after she had made the wall of notes. You know what they're going to say: “Don't involve the families, Pippa”. It was already done, whether she liked it or not.
Once home, now at the back where there was a large forest perfect for her dog, she continued at a slow pace, observing her surroundings. She could feel how the town hadn't changed since that night, the black ribbons on some trees marking the place while the search took place. Everything seemed abandoned and full of spirits. Was Andie Bell buried there?
She let go of her golden's collar, watching it run after some sticks. She also continued to follow it, just to be on the safe side, letting her thoughts and worries drift away. It already seemed strange how her stomach churned at the thought of Cairo, it wasn't bad, she wanted to talk more about her, tell the trees around her how the brunette seemed invisible at school and yet everyone saw her.
Something hitting her shin brought her back. A stick.
──── That's a good one - she commented to Barney, smiling and throwing the piece of wood as they always did.
This time, something else caught her eye. Someone was running, fast over the dry leaves and mud. Her clear eyes scanned her entire field of vision, only to find a blonde woman in the background. Andie Bell was blonde, right?
She also heard dog barks, which could only have been Barney's. As the blonde disappeared, her golden retriever came running in the same direction as the girl. Just like the two of them, Pippa started running, screaming for Barney until her lungs hurt.
There they were.
──── Cute dog - Said the girl, raising her gaze to Pip.
She recognized it instantly, it was exactly the same look she'd been staring at for a week all over Andie's instagram. She looked different, without the bangs hiding her forehead, but she still had the same blue eyes. It wasn't Andie, it was her sister, Becca.
──── Sorry... Did I scare you? - Bell asked, stopping caressing Barney as she stood up.
──── No... I... I thought it was someone else.
──── Oh... I get it, a lot of people get it mixed up - She shrugged, I could see the pain in her eyes before she started running again.
Was that a sign? What if Andie wasn't even dead? Was Andie in some mysterious corner of Little Kilton? Or some mysterious corner of the world?
It's up to Pippa to find out.
