Karishma finished, her voice softening, "Meri dosti shayad isse isi wajah se hui, kyunki isme mujhe tum dikhti ho... sirf tum."
Haseena's jealousy melted away, replaced by a deep warmth. The doubts that had plagued her mind seemed almost ridiculous now. She glanced at Meera, who stood quietly, her face showing a mix of understanding and sadness.
Ammi, Anvi, and Meera all smiled at Karishma's confession, sensing that perhaps the misunderstandings between Karishma and Haseena were beginning to heal. Meera, however, had tears in her eyes. She had always seen Karishma as her best friend, someone she cared for deeply. But now, hearing Karishma's words, she realized that for Karishma, she was never more than a stand-in for Haseena. She wasn't Karishma's true friend, but rather a reminder of someone else.
Meera wiped her tears discreetly, her heart aching even as she smiled at the scene unfolding before her. She had done all the preparations for Haseena the previous night, thinking it was for Karishma, but now she understood it was always about Haseena. Karishma's heart had never let go of her best friend, even for a moment.
The room felt lighter, but Meera's silent heartbreak hung in the air. Everyone knew that the bond between Karishma and Haseena was unbreakable, but Meera had hoped, somewhere deep down, to be seen as Karishma's true friend. Instead, she was a shadow of Haseena in Karishma's eyes.
As the day unfolded, everyone decided to put the heaviness of the past aside and enjoy an evening out together. They planned a small getaway, a tour to a waterfall nestled in the scenic hills. Haseena seemed happier than ever, her spirits lifted after the events of the morning. She believed that everything had fallen into place, that her bond with Karishma was back to normal, and the tensions had melted away. But something else was running through Karishma's mind, and as much as she tried to hide it, her thoughts kept pulling her back to the previous night.
Sitting in the van, Karishma stared out of the window, lost in her thoughts. She knew Haseena had to return to Imptar in a few days. Would she ever see her again? Would Haseena still harbor any resentment towards her deep down? And then there was the curse—her own secret that she couldn't share with anyone. The weight of it pressed down on her heart, but she knew she had to bear it alone, for Haseena's sake. She couldn't risk anyone finding out, least of all Haseena.
Meera and Haseena, sitting in the back of the van, were deep in conversation. They laughed, shared stories, and seemed to be connecting more than ever. Karishma watched them, noticing how carefree Haseena was. She seemed to have put everything behind her, as though nothing was left unsaid or unresolved. But Karishma knew better. Haseena might believe that everything was fine, but there were truths that Karishma couldn't reveal, no matter how much it weighed on her.
Meera, ever the chatterbox, turned to Haseena and asked, "Tum Karu ki family ho kya?"
Haseena looked at her, surprised by the question. "Kyu, kya hua?"
Meera chuckled and shook her head. "Yaar, jab bhi mai Karu se baat karti hu uski family ki, she only talks about you. Tumhara naam lete hi uska chehra alag ho jata hai. Aur jab bhi uske relationship ke baare me baat aati hai, vo bas gumsum ho jati hai... kuch bolti nahi. Kuch hua hai kya uske past me, jo use itna pareshan rakhta hai?"
Haseena, taken aback, thought for a moment. "Mujhe nahi pata, Meera. Hum dono kaafi kareeb hain, lekin Karishma kabhi apne past ke baare mein itna nahi bolti. Shayad kuch baatein hain jo vo mujhse bhi chupaye rakhti hai."
Meera nodded thoughtfully. "Lage toh aisa hi hai. Tum dono ke beech kuch toh hai jo unsaid reh gaya hai. Tum dono ki dosti kitni gehri hai, par kabhi kabhi lagta hai ki kuch cheezein adhuri reh gayi hain."
Haseena smiled, trying to brush it off. "Karishma aisi hi hai. She keeps things to herself sometimes. But ab sab kuch theek lagta hai."
Meera gave her a knowing look, but didn't push further. Karishma, overhearing their conversation, felt her heart clench. Haseena's words felt like a gentle reminder of everything she was hiding, and she hated herself for it. She wanted to be honest, to tell Haseena the truth about her curse, her pain, her fears, but she couldn't. Not now. Maybe not ever.
The van soon pulled up near the waterfall, and as they stepped out into the cool, misty air, the sound of cascading water filled their ears. It was a beautiful place, the kind of serene setting that might offer a momentary escape from all the turmoil inside. The sunlight danced through the droplets of water in the air, creating tiny rainbows that seemed to lift everyone's spirits.
Haseena and Meera were already splashing around in the shallow pool near the waterfall, laughing and carefree, while Karishma stood back for a moment, just watching them. She smiled, but it didn't quite reach her eyes. The others couldn't see it, but her mind was still a battlefield of conflicting thoughts.
She knew she had to enjoy this time, this fleeting moment of peace, but the shadow of her curse and Haseena's eventual departure loomed over her. The questions Meera had asked stuck with her. She wished she could answer them. She wished she could explain why she seemed so distant at times, why she hesitated to talk about her past.
But for now, she had to keep pretending. For Haseena. For their friendship. Even if it meant carrying this burden alone.
