POV: Vannie Anschütz
It was dark, I could barely see anything, let alone the thousands of people in front of me. I just couldn't understand, how was this gonna keep any of us safe? Having all of us in one place like this? There's absolutely no way this is a good idea. It was moist and foggy, the modded tents all aligned to their assigned BP's, which were apparently just different sections of tents. A road ran in between the two sides of the BP's, and goodness they went on for a while. To the left or to the right, you would always find them. Yea, there was trees and a mess hall, even some buildings that were used for learning either military or pipe band instruments. Towards the right when we had first arrived there around an hour ago, I remembered seeing a large section of concrete, it looked like it was used for marching since there was flags and places to sit surrounding the area, somewhere Infront was also a canteen, and a place to play old arcade games topped with an old Wii as if it made the sad building any better. Either way, I looked around at everyone around me, around 1 to 2 thousand cadets from every element were looking as scared and confused as I was.
"what the actual hell is happening.."
I heard someone mumble behind me, it was a boy. He was wearing a blue elemental t-shirt so I knew he was an air cadet at that. God, he looked more furious then I was scared. He shook and his fists were tightly clenched, looking at the so called "Staff" that were meant to be helping us with a piercing stare.
He was sorta.. cute, to say the least. I wondered why I was thinking this way, considering the situation we were all in, but I couldn't help it. His black pushed up glasses, the pair nerds wore but the shape was a little off. His eyes were so mesmerizing too, I couldn't tell if they were green, blue, grey, maybe all at once, all I knew was that they were gorgeous. He was about a foot and a half taller than me, which made it quite obvious I was staring, his hair was parted, a light brown, quite soft and fluffy looking . He glanced over at me, his gaze softening as if he could tell how I felt about this whole thing. My gaze softened as well, then I soon later looked away. I continued to listen to their directions, it consisted of them basically giving all of us the talk.
"We do not tolerate any bullying, sexual assault, or anything against the cadet code of conduct! We are making sure to be clear about this because yes, we will be allowing anyone of the opposite sex to be in the same tent, giving the current conditions you are all in."
This didn't mean much to me, I mean, I don't really know anybody here anyway. Looking around at anybody I thought I could maybe start conversation with, the staff began to speak again. Gosh what now?!
"Now, we will be letting you chose your tents, if anybody is aware they don't really know anybody here, follow the staff and we will assign you with others who have nobody as well."
I guess I'll follow them, its a smart decision since I probably wont be able to make friends fast enough to get a tent with them anyway. As I followed the staff with the 30 people who didn't seem to have friends either, it made me feel ashamed. Considering there were a couple thousand cadets here, and we were the only ones without friends? Jeez we are all miserable for cadets. The staff seemed to acknowledge that too.
"Uh- Hey do you uhm.. wanna like, talk.. and maybe get to know each other..?"
The girl beside me began to speak, she introduced herself as Riku, Riku Thornberry. She was around the same height as me, and her eyes were a nice soft green. Her hair was a dirty light brown, long and wavy, soft looking with blonde highlights. I noticed on her left hand she didn't have a middle finger or a thumb, probably a victim of the tank that exploded at an FTX a while back like I was. I had the right side of my upper lip gone and destroyed, you could see my gums and my teeth, all because of the explosion.
"Yea that sounds good.. can I uh.. ask about your hand?"
I replied, as we continued to walk behind the staff. I saw that they had added pumpkins around the tents to make it more Halloween like. I glanced at the boy I was looking at earlier. She smiled at me as she seemed to notice how I felt about him.
"Yea, what exactly do you wanna like-.. know..?"
She replied, both of us being polite about each other's imperfections. I appreciated her not commenting on my lip to be honest, It hurt to remember how it happened. Any who though, I asked her about how she had lost her two fingers, While I looked around while as we walked.
I liked the shade of purple in the sky, the way it complimented the orange with it like Halloween colours.
