Sebastian and his twin sister Anne had been preparing all summer for their changes. Each taking bets on what they would become. It was a high toss up with their genetics; their father and uncle being alphas, their mother an omega and rumors of one grandparent on each side being a beta.

Their uncle Solomon provided them each with books and resources that explained the new behaviors they would develop and how their instincts would make them feel. Everything they needed to know was explained to them in great detail, preparing them for how to navigate best in their new roles.

Anne presented first, much to Sebastian's chagrin. She came barreling into the kitchen for breakfast with a toothy grin, proudly showing off her new slightly longer canines with a perfect point to them. "Ha, Alpha. You owe me three sickles!" she taunted, happy in her winnings.

Grumbling, Sebastian reached into his pocket and pulled out the debt owed, "Ugh, fine. But I'm definitely earning those back, and soon." he glared, placing the sickles on the table. He hadn't shown any signs of presenting yet, but he hoped it wouldn't be too far behind Anne.

The rest of the day went by as normal, aside from Anne showing off or staring at her new fangs in the mirror as she contracted and retracted them. Sebastian kept giving her strange expressions as she did so, wondering what the point of it was.

Summer was almost over, with the new term at Hogwarts starting in only a couple of days. It would be their seventh and final year then it was off into the world with new careers and starting their lives. Sebastian was nervous about leaving, and the thought of having a final goodbye to everyone he's known and grown up with for the past seven years made his eyes start to sting.

He didn't mean to be so sensitive about trivial things, and it sometimes frustrated him by how much he would get upset. Sebastian was nearly inconsolable when his best friend Ominis didn't want to join them in Feldcroft for the summer. It was a tradition at this point but Ominis said they would probably be more comfortable transitioning in their own spaces, allowing for privacy and time to get used to their new bodies.

At the time, Sebastian might have been a blubbering and sobbing mess but right now he was glad for it.

Sebastian jolted awake completely drenched in sweat, his muscles burning and a coiling pain twisting through his body. Everything hurt so much and the slightest touch to the heated skin made him sob from the searing pain that formed.

His cries seemed to have woken his uncle since the next thing he knew, Solomon was entering his room with a cold towel and pain relieving potion. "Here, it's okay. This will help ease the discomfort." he spoke gruffly, trying to pour the liquid down his nephews throat.

Small whines left Sebastian as he tried to swallow the potion, the movement hurting his changing body. "Wh-what's happening to me? This didn't happen to Anne?" he spoke in a sob, moving to curl up in a fetal position while holding his stomach.

"No, because Anne is an alpha." Solomon reminded, bringing the cold towel to dab at Sebastian's sweat soaked face. He watched as his nephews brown eyes widened in both horror and eager for answers. "You're an omega. I could smell it from downstairs."

Sebastian panicked, not even aware he had a scent. He shrank in on himself and tried to be smaller, hiding away from the scrutiny of his uncle. "Are you mad then?" he asked bitterly, his voice wobbling slightly. It was no secret that Solomon and himself didn't get along, but they at least tried to be civil. His uncle often scolding him for basically existing.

Solomon's eyes softened slightly, the frown lines on his face deepening. "Not for this. You can't help it, and I already expected this." at the questioning look Sebastian was giving him, Solomon continued. "You've always been a sensitive boy, but you've also always followed Anne around and just agreed with whatever she wanted. You did the same with your friend Ominis, trailing behind him and asking for ideas instead of coming up with your own. You can be a leader when it's needed, but I've noticed you prefer to not have to."
