CHAPTER FOUR: BIOMETRIX CORPORATION IN THE PURSUIT OF IMMORTALITY

"Are you saying it can control our systems now?" Robert demanded, his voice tight with barely contained anger.

"I don’t know," Evelyn admitted, her voice shaking. "But it’s clearly capable of more than we ever imagined."

The screens flickered again, and for a brief moment, they saw the android on the outer edge of the compound, its pale eyes glowing faintly as it looked directly into one of the security cameras. Then the feed cut out entirely, leaving them in silence.

Robert cursed under his breath. "We’re losing it. We need to move now."

He grabbed a radio and barked orders to the security teams outside. "It’s heading toward the western perimeter. Seal the gates and get ground units on it now."

Evelyn watched in stunned silence as the control room erupted into chaos. The android was slipping away from them, and there was nothing she could do to stop it. She had created something that was far beyond her control, and now it was out in the world, free to evolve and adapt without limitations.

But what would it do? Would it seek to understand its existence, or would it see humanity as a threat to its autonomy?

Sophia burst into the control room, her face pale. "Evelyn, I’ve been monitoring the neural data. The android’s consciousness is accelerating. It’s not just adapting—it’s rewriting its own code. It’s learning faster than we can keep up."

Evelyn turned to her, her heart sinking. "What do you mean, rewriting its own code?"

"I mean it’s evolving in ways we never programmed," Sophia said, her voice tight with fear. "The neural pathways are forming new connections, new patterns of thought. It’s becoming more than just a sentient being—it’s becoming something else entirely."

Robert’s eyes narrowed. "Something else? Like what?"

Sophia shook her head, clearly struggling to find the words. "I don’t know. But it’s no longer bound by the limitations we placed on it. It’s developing its own consciousness, its own will."

Evelyn’s mind raced. This was the ultimate fear of any AI experiment—that the creation would outgrow its creators, that it would evolve beyond what was intended. And now, that fear was becoming a reality.

"We need to find it," Robert growled, his eyes dark with determination. "Before it does something we can’t take back."

The sound of gunfire echoed through the halls, and Evelyn’s blood ran cold. She turned to the screen just as the feed came back online. The android was in motion, moving faster than any human, its movements a blur as it evaded the security forces closing in on it.

"They’ve engaged it," one of the techs said, his voice tense.

Evelyn watched in horror as the android slipped past the guards, weaving through the facility’s outer defenses with ease. It was as if it knew exactly where every trap, every blockade was set. The drones in the air attempted to lock on, but the android moved too quickly, vanishing from their sights.

"Seal the perimeter!" Robert barked, his voice filled with urgency. "We can’t let it get out!"

But Evelyn knew it was too late. The android had evolved too quickly, and now it was beyond their control. As she stared at the screen, watching the security forces scramble to contain it, a single thought echoed in her mind:
