Daniel Dacosta , a knight Bachelor in Britain runs away after being sabotaged and threatened to be killed by one of his friends out of envy. He abandons his knight duties in England and wanders for safety or refuge. In his wandering, he joins a ship containing fifteen sailors from Catalonia. He gets to Catalonia and begs Queen Letizia to give him a place near the path to the stream in the forest and of which she agrees. Saturday morning, Maya comes to the stream with her maidens to bathe oblivious to Daniel's presence from behind. Daniel upon seeing her beauty, hides behind a tree and watches passionately. He instantly falls in love and later approaches Maya who also falls in love with him. The two decide to marry and spend the rest of their lives together but Lucas won't let them be. He warns Daniel to stay away from Maya since he's a poor farmer and has an anonymous and doubtful origin.
Later, Lamar Khan from Sultanate of Oman who often comes to Catalonia to trade and especially, trades with Lucas Gonzalez, asks his daughter's hand in marriage. Lucas, knowing very well of the gentleman's status and reputation, willingly accepts and forcefully wants to marry Maya to Lamar Khan. But Maya doesn't like the idea and tries to refuse...
