"Hey, Marko, wait up for a minute!" Carmela called.
Marko paused, his hand on the passenger door of his car. "What's up?" He asked.
Carmela tossed a large bag of skittles at him. "Happy seventeenth!" She smiled.
Marko shook his head in wonder, catching the bag. "Wow, Cam. Three years in a row. I'm impressed you keep remembering."
Carmela laughed. "Oh, please. I have it marked down in my calendar."
Marko smiled. "Thanks, shorty."
Carmela made a face. "I'm 5'2-"
"-and a half, I know," Marko laughed, glancing down at the bag. There was a note taped to it, per usual. He still had the first one:
Happy 15th!
- Carmela
P.S. pls don't hurt me :)
The second one had read:
HAPPY 16th!
- Cam
P.S. Save some of the red ones for me.
This one, however, was much different. This one read:
I kinda have a huge, enormous crush on you.
- Cam
Marko froze. Well, shit.
"Carmela?" He asked.
Carmela's face fell, only slightly, before she threw on a mask of being okay. She knew already what was happening - he hadn't called her Carmela for two years.
"Keep the skittles. It's late, I should get going. 'Night, Marko." She grabbed her bag and turned on her heel, walking away quickly.
He didn't call after her.
He wanted to, but he knew better.
"Carmie?" Maya picked up the phone immediately.
Carmela was too busy crying to respond.
Somehow, Maya knew.
"Oh, shit, Carmie." She whispered. "I'm so sorry."
