Truly, it was just another day at the Demon Slayer Corps. Tomioka watched as the sun dipped below the horizon, its fiery hues painting the sky in deep shades of orange and crimson. From a distance, he observed Tanjiro and his friends training their hardest.

His hand instinctively tightened around the hilt of his sword, a subtle reminder of the weight he carried as the Water Hashira. Despite Tanjiro's efforts, Tomioka knew deep down that no one could truly replace him in his role.

Giyuu hummed, walking away and to his estate until his crow, Kanzaburo, flew over. Turns out, he was needed for a mission.

The Water Hashira made his way to Kagaya and as he did so, he ran into the Wind Hashira.

Sanemi.

"Oi, watch where you going, Tomioka," Sanemi barked, his usual irritation evident.

Tomioka bowed, feeling a pang of saddness at having angered Sanemi again. "Apologies, I was called by master."

As if on cue, Kagaya appeared, his presence commanding yet calm. The purple markings on his forehead were more pronounced than usual, a sign of his worsening condition. Both Hashira immediately bowed in respect.

With a gentle smile, Kagaya addressed them. "I've called you both for a mission that requires two Hashira. Your crows will lead you to a village where demons have been sighted. However, I must warn you—I've sent other demon slayers there before, and none have returned. I trust the two of you to handle this. I am aware of your... rivalry, but please, learn to work together."

Sanemi's eye twitched but he said nothing out of respect, listening to Kagaya.

". . . your crows would lead you to the village, but I must warn you. I've sent some other demon slayers there and they never came back. I trust you the both of you to work together. I have heard about your. . . rivalry. Please, learn to work together."

"Yes master," both hashiras said, standing up and bowing, taking their leave.

As they walked away, Sanemi groaned inwardly at the thought of being paired with Tomioka, the aloof, "I'm not like you" Water Hashira. A part of him itched to challenge Giyuu, to spar and put him in his place. Yet, for reasons unknown even to himself, he held back. He didn't want to dig deeper into why, nor did he care to understand.

"Whatever," Sanemi thought, deciding to get the mission over with and be done with it.

Ya'll, please be nice 😭👌this is my first fanfic of one of my fav ships. I'm really into other ships tbh, but this ship has truly stuck by me for a long time. Have mercy.
