                       Yunji looked out the window.

It had been raining all day, it didn't look let it would let up any time soon, so her bike ride would be a wet and slippery one. Maybe it would have been a good idea to get those grippers on her bike like her flatmate had suggested. Though money was tight, it wouldn't have been a good idea.

The sound of birds, the heavy thump of the raindrops hitting different surfaces, and the faint exhausts of various cars, it was a perfect way to describe Yunji's mood most of the time. She wasn't ever happy, but she wouldn't say she was chronically depressed either. She believed people had it worse than her. It wasn't like there was anyone to teach her better.

Her day-dreaming was cut short by the sound of people standing up from their seats. Class had ended and she had missed whatever junk her calculus professor was saying. Yunji sighed and began to pack her things, a shitty old Windows computer her friend lent her 7 years ago, it couldn't even run Chrome properly. Some of her notes went in there as well. There wasn't much she carried around, and her rock-sack hung on for dear life. Thank the heavens she was smart enough to get into college under an opportunity funds program, cause she sure as hell didn't have over 20 thousand dollars to spend.

The rain was pouring, and a lot of other students commuted by bus. And even more of them had their cars, motorcycles, hell, even electric scooters. Yunji couldn't deny the fact she was jealous at times. Jealous of these rich kids, but there wasn't anything she could do about it. Yunji began the long commute home, in the pouring rain, her flat was over 10 miles away, and the best she could do was stop for short breaks.

It only made the ride feel longer. She did it anyway.

Night came quickly, The cons of having a 4-hour class at 3:30 PM, she was bound to get home late with a 2-hour bike ride. But today felt awfully eerie. It was so quiet; you couldn't hear a single grasshopper or cricket. The lights in her shared apartment were turned off, and her flatmate's slides weren't at the door. Neither was the coat; something was definitely wrong.

Yunji twisted the door handle open, and she brought out her laptop, even if she smashed it to bits, no one would really miss it. Okay, she would a tiny bit. "Imani? Are you in there?" She held up the laptop, but her attempts at scaring away the intruder were futile, as a brick soon bashed her skull knocking her out.

A few hours had threaded by, and she woke up, tied to a chair, with bruises all over her face. Her muscles ached, and different parts of her body hurt. Her vision was blurry as she didn't have her glasses on. She looked around weakly, wondering what happened before she found herself like this. And then, Yunji saw something she never expected to see.

Her friend's dead body was in front of her.

Her throat clogged instantaneously, and she felt nauseated and wanted to vomit. She closed her eyes, but the smell of rotten flesh made its way into her nose it became harder to breathe. Tears filled her eyes from her lack of breath, her face began to pinken.

"Somebody-! H-help!"

Yunji screamed in agony, and in her fright, she perceived another smell. Like gasoline. She struggled in the chair, as the smell of fumes came next. The building was being lit on fire. She was covered in the flammable liquid, she would be utterly fucked, her burns would likely never heal, and she would be in the best case scenario, dead.

The flames began to spread, the kitchen counter, the TV, everything was burning. And she was next, the fire crept up her leg, it was the harshest thing she had ever felt in her life. Not the pain in your stomach when you could feel the acids tear up the linen, nor the unquenchable thirst when you had no water to drink.
