I stood at my locker, my fingers lazily spinning the combination dial as I scanned the hallway. It was Friday afternoon, and the usual end-of-week buzz was in full swing. Everyone was excited, talking about their weekend plans, but I was already looking forward to a quiet evening at home—just me, a good book, and maybe a movie.

"Hey, Kate!"

I looked up to see Jess bounding toward me, her grin wide and full of energy. Emma was right behind her, practically bouncing with the same excitement.

"Hi, Jess. Hi, Emma," I said, smiling as I finally managed to open my locker. "What’s up with you guys?"

"You mean, why are we so excited?" Jess asked, her eyes twinkling. "What are you doing tomorrow night?"

"Tomorrow?" I hesitated, knowing where this was going. "I was just planning to stay in, maybe read or watch something. Nothing special."

Jess immediately rolled her eyes at me. "You are *not* spending another Saturday night alone, Kate. There’s this huge party tomorrow night, and you’re coming with us."

I couldn’t help but laugh. Jess always made it sound so simple, like all I had to do was show up and everything would fall into place. "A party? I don’t know... I’m not really in the mood for something like that."

Emma leaned against the locker next to mine, shaking her head with a mock serious expression. "Oh, come on, Kate. Sarah’s parties are legendary. It’s going to be fun, and you need to get out of your bubble a little. Besides, everyone’s going."

"Everyone?" I asked, raising an eyebrow. "Like who?"

Jess shot Emma a quick glance, a mischievous grin spreading across her face. "Like Daniel," she said, her voice lilting with suggestion.

My heart skipped a beat at the mention of Daniel. He was... different. We’d shared a few classes over the years, exchanged a few words, but he was the kind of guy who was hard to get to know—quiet, mysterious, with those striking blue eyes that made me feel like he could see right through me. I’d always been a little intrigued by him, though I never let myself dwell on it.

"Daniel’s going to be there?" I tried to sound casual, but I could tell from their smirks that I wasn’t fooling anyone.

"Yep," Jess confirmed, her grin widening. "And you’re not going to pass up a chance to hang out with him outside of school, are you?"

I bit my lip, weighing my options. Staying in sounded safe, comfortable—but the idea of seeing Daniel, maybe even talking to him in a different setting, had me second-guessing my plans. And then there was Jess and Emma, practically vibrating with excitement, their enthusiasm contagious.

"Alright, fine," I said, giving in with a smile. "I’ll go to the party. But you guys owe me for this."

Jess squealed and threw her arms around me, her joy spilling over. "You won’t regret it, Kate, I swear!"

Emma clapped her hands, as if we’d just pulled off some big victory. "This is going to be so much fun! We’ll come over tomorrow night and get ready together. It’ll be epic."

As the final bell rang, I closed my locker and followed Jess and Emma down the hall, their laughter and chatter echoing around us. I still wasn’t entirely sure about this party—I wasn’t exactly the life of any gathering—but maybe stepping out of my comfort zone was just what I needed. Besides, there was something about the idea of seeing Daniel that made my stomach flutter with a mix of nerves and excitement.

Saturday night was suddenly looking a lot
