I awoke from a dark sleep, the nightmare forever haunting my mind as I lay helplessly on the ground. "You did this to me," I gurgled through my blood. "Why?" a question left unanswered as the man I once saw as my friend walked away. My slight was now blurry, and my body started to run cold. "You bastard." out was my last breath before the world went black.

Ten Years later. . .

I sat on a bench alone, looking at the starry night; it captivated my vision as my hands slightly trembled. "Damn." I huffed as my head fell, my gaze now set on the ground below. A slight sound of embers clashing like a sparkler let out in front of me, causing me to raise my head; I gazed at the line of embers slowly opening up for an average-built man to walk through. "So you're the guy? HA! That's fuckin rich." the man's voice was low and rough. He seemed to spit at me with his words, causing something to stir in me. My gaze narrowed, and my hands balled into fists, yet I stayed quiet. "Come on, I have someone just dying to see you," he said in a low chuckle as he gestured for me to go through the ember door, a white light blocking the view of the other side.

"Your fucking delusional if you think I'm walking through that." I spat, rubbing the back of my neck and shaking my head. "Boss said you wouldn't so look like I get to have a bit of fun," He said, punching his fist into his palm and glaring down at me with a twisted smile.

I fell through the portal, spitting blood out of my mouth before I raised my head and looked around. I saw a familiar old man as I grumbled, his prize beside him. He was still pale as snow with his peculiar baby blue hair; black tear marks stained his skin like ink smeared on paper. "I never wanted to see your face." My tone was low and filled with warning as I glared at the man. My ever-growing hate for him is unwavering.

"You dumb boy, as your father, you should have a little more respect." The man's eyes were cold and distant. His expression was always the same. Empty. "I will never call you father again. And she is no better than you!" My words rang through the room like thunder as I pointed at the woman standing next to him. Plastered on her face was a pity as she avoided my gaze, my expression harsh, and I felt the anger bubbling inside me like a capped volcano. "You are no family of mine. Damn you both to hell."

I spat. My attention wavered when the man from earlier walked through the portal tethering. As he stumbled beside me, his body started for the ground, stopping abruptly when I placed my arm out to catch him. "Y. . .you bastard." he gasped. Causing a smile to form on my lips. "I assume he was your best, no? Well, he did well, but he can't beat the enslaved kid you picked from a young age and trained until the brink of death." I started gazing at him over my shoulder with a cold yet emotionless face, keeping my emotions in check after the interruption.

I picked up the man, holding him over my shoulder as I looked around the palace. " I assume the place is still the same, no? I'll be taking him to the infirmary." I turned away, my breath uneven as I walked further from the two who looked down on me in their position of higher power. It infuriated me, not just infuriated. I loathed them. They dared to call me brother and son but didn't even look like me. And I didn't even try; my dark, purpled wings and hair were as black as space itself. It curled and was kept in thick box braids as opposed to their straight blue hues. My skin even contrasts there with its deep brown shades. I was the charity case that made a family of power look pleasing to the public eye.

I gently placed the man on the bed and stepped back, allowing the medical staff to tend to his injuries. As I gazed down at him, a moan was followed by a grumble as his eyes slowly opened. As I glared down at him, waiting for our eyes to meet, it took him one look before he stopped and tried to run away. "Sit your ass down." I hissed in a softer tone, looking away from him; he paused in his movements and sat there for a moment. "Not gonna finish the job?" His words hit me like a wall as I took a deep breath to refrain from having another outburst. "I'm a contract killer. No cash, no blood." I huffed, crossing my arms and towering over the man.

"Gods, you're a monster-" he rubbed the back of his neck, glaring at the floor. I studied him; he was a decent-sized man to go undetected and had the skills of a well-trained killer. But I could tell no matter how tough he acted, he was more brainy than brown. He had light brown hair kept in a small messy ponytail, his face was patchy with facial hair, and he always seemed to have a stern expression like myself. His eyes were an odd yellow color that seemed to glow in the darkness when he looked away from the sun's rays on his face.

"What are you staring at, freak." I frowned as he spat at me with his back turned. "Am I a freak for contract killing or my skin tone?" I rolled my eyes; when I looked back at him, he seemed to take great offense to my words. "I'm not a racist. I'm Latino myself." He started through his teeth. I leaned down a bit to look at his face. "Really? Amazing- I can't tell. You blend in with them so well, and the slight tan only indicates you're a field worker not strictly or associated with the palace and their pale skin-." I said, grabbing his face and turning it slightly. "Who's the racist now?" he grabbed my hand, trying to pull it off his face as he examined it. "And isn't the head of the grand master's army the one with dark patches of skin scattered over her body?" My eyes hardened as I let go of his face, pulling mine closer to where I could feel his breath. "You mention those names and associations to me again. And I WILL kill you." looking through him with hard eyes, my voice was calm but filled with warning before I pulled away, towering over him once again.

I turned my attention towards the door as a small man walked in timidly; as I watched them enter the room, he paused, clearing his throat. "The grandmaster wishes to see you in his study. . ." he stated. I let out a long and rough sigh. "Fine, I will grant him an audience," I said as I followed the small man. Before I walked out the door, I felt a tug on my wrist. I looked back to see the man brought here. "Be careful-" He said, the fear welling in his eyes. "Damn, you look so pathetic. I know what to look out for. Unlike you in your 20s, I was 10." I said, ruffling his hair, causing the band to fall out. "Cage." "Hmm?" "My name is Cage." "Ah- I see," I smirked, waving as I followed the more petite man down the hall.
