SIX MONTHS AGO / अतीत

“i personally feel that a woman always elevates a man's personality, even if she is cheating on him, tab bhi. he goes into this whole character development and becomes a better version of himself.” keeping quiet in the library is an unwritten norm around the globe, but this was an exception in laxmi narayan. ofcourse it's one of the top college in the nation but when the theater club gets an assignment then the whole library is their personal stall. amala was here too, giving speeches because well, one, she doesn't have any class for an hour now, and two, she quickly gelled with the people from theater club and media-journalism major. she always had a thing for shooting videos and making edits.

“exactly bhai, i have seen so many pretty girls with tatti shakal ke ladke.” trisha makes a remarks, while a silent anghad sat beside her, eyeing her in disbelief. the trisha he knows has no knowledge of words like 'tatti shakal' and doesn't like making conversations with people, but here she was having a whole session as if recording a podcast they titled ‘shitty man with pretty gals’. maybe it was the influence of this girl amala, she seems loud but her philosophy was something anghad agrees with.

“a woman does elevate a man's status. that's true.” he leaned on the table around which the whole group was spread. fixing his specs, he gave them a cue that he was totally indulged in their conversation, which he geniunely was. he had been listening to amala's philosophy since last fifteen minutes probably and it's quite bold and interesting, like herself.

“haana!” wow. amala never thought that this eye candy was also so cool. “i am amala singh.” she extended her arm forward for a handshake which he accepted and introduced himself too, “i am anghad srivastava from media and journalism department and you?”

“oh, i am political science major, where—”

“anghad! we need you for the mood board work.”

“umm mood board selection?”

“yes, i am doing digital media so.”

“oh can i join too?” he wanted to say ‘umm no, i like working alone and need my space’ but ended up saying “huh? it's okay i guess.” that too with a big welcoming smile on.

“okay guy, i am going to leave for my philosophy class.” trisha waved good bye and soon the boy led amala through a pile of pictures of different tacky costumes and props. it was so messy, no doubt the caretaker hates these programs, because it's always on such a large scale and why won't it be? laxmi narayan wants to flex and gain the title of an all rounder college but the students have to give up everything to work on the projects whose credit is then taken up by the college. that's how they stay on the top.

“what is the hustle even about?”

“we, the freshers, are doing a play with the guidances of our seniors—”

“what type of guidances?” amala interrupted with a ‘what help do they even do’ look which was a little mean. it was not her fault, her experience with her seniors wasn't that good. they were, to simply put, straight up mean.

“umm, well they help us by giving us phone numbers of the people they get costume and props from and gives us insight on how to smoothly carry out a huge event because we all have to handle it all alone with not a very generous budget.”

“oh...”

“hmm”

“so what 'thing' are you doing?”

“we are doing a drama, named ek tha ghadha, it has comedy with a good moral.”

“ek tha ghada?” amala's eyes almost popped out of her sockets and to anghad it looked like she was going to say something off again. “that sounds so dope!” she nodded her head looking at the moodboards and anghad knew  he was in deep shit now. a random student who will say things like,
“is there any way i can take a part, too?” this, exactly.

“well there were auditions for a few roles because the club already exists.”

“no, i don't want to act, instead i want to help with props or some other artsy thing? i am quite creative to be honest, I can show you my portfolio.” and these things.

“ah, no need for that amala. i don't think i will need any help, as it's our first time, everyone is quite energetic.” there is no way, anghad is going to work with her. it's not that there is something wrong with her, it's just, her personality is not what anghad prefers to work with. loud and dominant, even though it's basically a leadership skill but still he doesn't want her to lead the team he is incharge of, so, all anghad could do right now was to put on a sorry-smile.

“oh okay, chalo koi nahi but if you need any help you can contact me.”

“sure.” ofcourse not.

“i will go now, class starts soon. it was very fun to be here with you all, takes me back to sixth grade.”

“hmm, bye.” phew.

“anghad, you will have to record behind the scenes from tomorrow as well as select the moodboard till today so we can get other people's approval on it, and if they reject it then will have to make another moodboard and then for tomorrow you also have to go and get a hold of the costume person and get the props too.” where did he come from.

“ek hi tomorrow hai mere pass, how will i do this all? i will have to miss all my classes this way.”

“who even attents classes during events?” what's his name again?

“but what about moodboard? am i the only one selecting it?”

“no anghad, of course not, you are just a part of it because khushi thinks it will be good to take your advice on these things so get the work done and you can take help form other people.”

“oh okay, that's good.”

“if they are free.” the boy whose name anghad can't recall at the moment, rolls his eyes and walks away, leaving him dumbstruck. ‘chalo koi nahi but if you need any help you can contact me.’

wow. deep shit.
