Shigaraki POV:
Morning hits me with the worst possible combo — noise and a hangover. My skull is pounding like it’s trying to claw its way out, and of course the League sounds like a zoo at 8 a.m. I drag myself up, wipe sleep out of my eyes, and make myself semi-presentable before stepping into the bar.
The second I walk in, I regret existing.
Everyone is screaming — Toga shrieking, Twice arguing with himself, Spinner trying to mediate, and Dabi… leaning back like a smug crow watching chaos burn.
Kurogiri is the only one acting like a functional adult. He glances at me over a glass he’s polishing, like, finally.
“What the hell is going on in here?” I groan. My voice cracks. The room goes dead silent.
Dabi glances up at me, sly grin tugging at his mouth like he’s been waiting for this exact moment. The chaos is obviously his fault.
“Out,” I say. I don’t care where — just out of my line of sight. They scatter, muttering, until only Kurogiri, Dabi, and I remain.
I fold my arms. “Explain.”
“Messin’ with Toga,” Dabi says, smirking like he’s proud of himself.
Kurogiri sighs — the kind of sigh someone gives when they’ve mentally quit their job. “Dabi decided it was a good idea to ‘give Toga a small scare.’”
I narrow my eyes at Dabi — or at least I think I do. Hard to tell with Father covering most of my face. “Define small.”
Dabi starts laughing before he even answers. “I put a—” He dissolves into full hysterics.
Kurogiri deadpans, “He put a toy spider on her lunch. He snuck it onto her plate before anyone else arrived. I advised him not to.”
Dabi wheezes, “She was so mad!”
I wait — because that’s all I can do when he's like this.
Kurogiri finishes the story in a patient tone I absolutely don’t deserve: “Toga began threatening everyone with a knife. I intervened before she actually injured someone. Then you walked in.”
Of course.
Toga reacting dramatically? Shocking.
I turn to Dabi. “Why would you do that?”
He shrugs. “Thought it’d be funny. And it was.” His shoulders shake — a laugh he’s restraining just to annoy me.
I look at Kurogiri. “You handled it?”
A nod.
“Fine.” That’s enough for me. I leave the bar without another word.
***
I didn’t intend to fall asleep — but apparently my body made the decision for me.
The knock at my bedroom door wakes me. My mouth is dry. The pounding in my skull has downgraded from sledgehammer to dull ache.
I open the door.
It’s Dabi.
Of course it is.
Every instinct tells me: slam the door. Go back to sleep. Ignore the world.
But I don’t.
“What do you want?” I ask, monotone. I don’t have the energy for whatever stupidity he’s here to deliver.
He leans casually against my doorframe, arms crossed. “We didn’t hear anything from your room in like four hours. Figured you died.”
“I’m tired. Leave.” I start to close the door — but he blocks it with his hand… until he remembers what happens if I touch skin. He jerks his hand back fast.
“Hold on,” he says.
I stare at him. “What.”
“If you’re going back to sleep, what am I supposed to do for the next few hours? Everyone else went out, and I have no desire to be anywhere today.”
“And what do you want me to do about it?”
He exhales, frustrated. “Shigaraki — I’m bored. There’s nothing to do here, and I don’t have anywhere else to be.”
“So go find a book. Or a game. Or go sit on the roof and brood dramatically. Just don’t die or kill anyone in the League.” I try closing the door again.
“Shigaraki.”
This time his tone is different — almost… earnest.
I stop. “…What?”
He swallows, looks away briefly — like the words physically hurt him.
“I kind of wanted to hang out with you.”
It hits me harder than it should. I blink, stunned.
“…What?”
He repeats, slower. “I wanted to hang out. With you.”
The silence stretches. Too long. I suddenly notice my body — tense shoulders, tight jaw — and force myself to relax.
“…Why,” I ask, because I genuinely don’t understand.
“I don’t know,” he says. “I guess I thought it might be… fun?”
Fun.
Me.
Right.
“…Fine,” I say. “I probably won’t be able to sleep again anyway.”
I step aside, letting him in. He walks into my room — carefully — like he’s entering sacred territory. We sit on my bed, a safe distance apart.
Two villains.
Two disasters.
Two people who don’t make sense — trapped in a quiet room, not killing each other.
For now.
