"well, now what?"
Somehow you found yourself standing in front of a cage. You never thought you'd end up in this situation. I mean, just earlier that day you were enjoying a nice breakfast and listening to music and now you're standing in front of a chained man.
The man's hands are handcuffed by heavy and thick metal bracelets that are attached to chains and the chains to a wall. He looks weak, like he hadn't eaten in weeks, dehydrated even. It looks like he'd been left here for days and his terrible bruises suggest that he was being tortured over and over again. His head is looking down, at the ground. It majes you wonder if he's even alive. From what you can make out, he seems to be breathing and asleep. You wonder what would happen if he woke up.
earlier that day...
"Oh, don't even remind me of that!", you and Elena both laugh about old memories over the phone. You two were best friends since middle school, you were practically inseparable. Now Elena has moved away to live out her adult life in a bigger city while you're still in your old town, alone. Looking out the window you sigh.
"Hey, I'll call you back later, I should probably clean this place a bit", you say and get up from your sofa. You say goodbyes and hang up.
"Alright!" you audibly say to yourself and go to the storage room to get the vacuum and prepare the rest of the cleaning supplies. However, you notice that you're out of cleaning supplies.
"Always something, huh?" you sigh and dust yourself off. You put your shoes on and head out the door.
The weather is cloudy and cold - good thing you brought your jacket. There aren't many people around, as usual. The town might as well be a ghost town, there were never any big events happening, no new people to meet, no new stores or cool spots to visit- or was there?
As you dragged your feet on the road to the market, you noticed an abandoned building. You usually ignore it when you pass, to you it was nothing but another abandoned house among many others. Many people have moved away from here to chase the joy of living a city life. This time though, it caught your eye. So what will you do? Will you enter?
Slowly approaching it closer, you made sure nobody was around when you entered. Even though very clearly nobody lived here, intruding wasn't really your thing. You slowly swung the creaky door open and, surprisingly, it was unlocked. The windows were broken, so was the furniture inside. There were a couple of pieces that could be salvaged, but most of it was broken and scattered all over the place.
As you made your way around the place you noticed that there wasn't anything special about it, maybe just a few funny graffiti left by some kids, so you decided to leave. On your way out you noticed another door to the right. The door looked almost undamaged, like it had just recently been installed there. Your curiousity got the best of you and then...
present time
Carefully, making the least noise possible, you come closer to the cage. Inside the cage there was also a bowl, presumably for water. Why was this man being fed like a dog?
The basement had a tiny light coming from the window, it reflected on the man's bruised toned body. He had straight black hair that, in the back, went below his shoulders, but the front and sides covered most of his face.
His breathing is labored, as if he's in pain. You take another look around the room and wonder what to do. You obviously want to try and help this guy, but there's no keys in sight. This basement is pretty empty apart from having this sick and twisted prison cell-like area. You debate whether to call the police, but knowing them they'd think it's a prank call. How would they not? Nothing ever happens in this city. Besides, the police station is pretty far and you had to think quickly. First maybe giving him some water would be a good idea.
You pull out a water bottle out of your bag, one you always carry because even the nearest store is miles away and along the way you get thirsty. Now comes the hard part - waking him up.
