They are of unknown origin, but they

are the most dangerous of the races

that live on this continent.

Don't take this warning quite lightly, because

they are and will be the most dangerous of them all."

Prof. Kali at the Northern Claw Sanctuary Academy

Prolog

A little dragonet rushed through the forest, yowling in pain and desperation as the shadowy claws reached for it. It avoided them, but one snagged onto its wings and left a dark, blood red tear that quickly gushed out blood.

It faltered, just for a moment, but that was enough for the claws to rip through the poor thing, ripping it to pieces. Blood slowly ran down the path, reaching past the border that would have meant safety.

The dragonet was the last survivor of the raid of the town, a final tragedy to count. The entire village was completely torn apart, and the blood formed a river that stained the nearby pond red. The shadows quickly withdrew, silently annihilating the bodies that would have hindered their retreat leaving behind only the body of the last survivor out of spite.

She would just be another couple of drops, another couple pieces of evidence that the shadows are coming.

Just another sacrifice in this war that means no ends, demands no pause, and declares no peace.

. . .

"How is it, Lieutenant Cristal?" An armored Druki (human) with white hair and a sharp, complete metal spear stiffened and turned around to face the commander. The unnaturally wild cerulean eyes met the unnaturally wild silver ones for a second, before moving away and glancing at the ruined village.

"Terrible. From what we've seen, there have been zero survivors, commander Kevalr." Cristal turned to face the village completely, the scale patterns on her hands flashing in the midday sun. It didn't stop the other Druki from noticing the teardrop that ran down the cheek.

Kevlar gently set his hand on the grieving person, calming her down. "It's going to be perfectly alright. We will get back at them one day."

She nodded and wiped the metallic tears. "I-i guess I would get going?"

Kevlar acknowledged her thoughts. "Scout the perimeter for any bodies. . . and any survivors."

Cristal nodded and walked past Kevlar, mortification making her footsteps rough and stiff. In a flash of light, a silvery blue dragon appeared at her place and flew away, the black wings beating in the humid air.

The commander watched Cristal for a bit, before returning to the ruins of the village. This was just one of many villages raided by the Devourers.

It really didn't help that there was an inadequate peace treaty that could shatter at any moment between the many tribes, when a much more dangerous, worse enemy was about to strike when they were at their weakest.

A girl with long, curly dark purple hair in a black jacket carefully surveyed the surroundings. She hid in the nearby patch of trees, observing the metaloid dragons' work. The Shard dragon lieutenant had just left, leaving the commander alone. She raised her purple tipped fingers and stroked it downward, creating a void in which she entered. After walking around seemling aimlessly for a couple of minutes, the dragon tore open the space and walked out, behind the captain.

"Hello." She spoke softly, like a breeze that shakes the leaves of the forest. Smiling, she slipped her hands into the pockets, blatantly unaware of the

"Eyil, what are you doing here?" Kevalr sighed softly before turning around to face the Eye. His hand shook for a moment, before meeting the violet eyes that gleamed in the dark. Softly, little pieces of metal crawled up to the surface of the ground, forming a little net around Eyil, who seemed unperturbed about the development.

Eyil smiled and waved away the metal pieces. "I mean no harm by coming here. All I want to say is the Devourers are going after the power of the legends, so I suggest you get your guard up." She chuckled softly, the eyes on her palm blinking as she opened them.

"How do I know that's not a lie?" His hands twitched and a metal longsword formed in a blink of an eye, the voice quivering. Eyil chuckled and put one violet-stained finger on her lips, the indigo eyes boring holes into the silver ones.

"Until next time, K." She stroked the air once again, and disappeared into the void, leaving behind only a very agitated dragon.
