Twin Rose (chapter 1)

I jerked awake and gasped, something
felt wrong but I couldn't place my hand on it.

"Fen Yi" I whispered, my eighteen year old personal maid came in.

"Good morning, Your Highness,"
she bowed, I nodded at her.

"What's the time?" I asked and she immediately answered, "It's seven thirty Your Highness."

I got out of bed and sat at my dressing table, she took a brush and combed my hair out.

"Is my sister awake yet?" I asked, Fen Yi dropped the brush on the table and picked up the comb.

"I think so, Your Highness, do you want me to set your bath now?"

I let out a breath and said "Yes, and tell Leon to meet me outside." Fen Yi bowed and left to prepare the bath.

I sighed and looked at the mirror. I just came back from the army camp after a bloody war with border enemies. I looked at my signature diamond mask and my black diamond mask sitting on the table, each I wore depending on how deadly I felt.

Then something flashed in my eyes. No one had ever seen my face outside the palace. The corners of my mouth twitched and I let out a groan.

"Your Highness, your bath is ready" called Fen Yi. I stood up and entered the bathroom, the scent of vanilla and
gold rose in the air was unmistakable.

"You can leave now." I told Fen Yi, she
bowed and left.

I took off my robe and sank into the large tub. The warm scented water instantly worked it's wonders into my body. I sighed in relief and sank farther into the tub.

I finished bathing and came out of the
bathroom, I wore a light blue hanfu
and a blue stash. Fen Yi came forward
along with four maids and I sat in
front of my mirror.

"Gongzhu, what style do you want today?" Asked Fen Yi.

"Ehm, soft with royal air." Fen Yi nodded and replied, "no problem, Your Highness."

"Okay people let's start." Fen Yi ordered the other maids.

They finished their work and it was perfect, "Thank you." I smiled, the maids beamed with happiness but tried to hide it. I couldn't blame them, my smile was quite rare.

I stood up and walked out of the room along with Fen Yi, my escort maids who had been waiting outside quickly followed when they saw me,I spotted Leon, my right hand man and scowled.

"Good morning, Your Highness." He bowed, I raised my eyebrows and folded my arms. "Uhm, Your Highness, did I do something wrong?"

I smirked and replied, "No, just wanted to see your reaction." I dropped my arms and continued walking. Leon stood there confused for a second but ran to catch up to me.

"Your Highness, I had my men search as you requested and we found something." I stopped for a second but shook my head.

"Its fine, don't tell me yet, I don't want anything to spoil the mood I just managed to form." Leon nodded as he thought it was a good idea.

I walked into my sister's garden and saw her and two other people sat at the table in the center.

"Good morning, Your Majesty." I greeted her.

It was the first time I saw her that morning and it was necessary that I
greeted her with that title since she's older.

"Good morning, Yaoyao," my sister responded. I nodded at her and sat down, she seemed relieved at the sight of my seemingly good mood.

"Yah, Yaoyao, are you going to say you didn't see me and Xiao Mei." Whined Xiao Jun.

I raised my eyebrows and smirked at my cousin.

"Ah, just the reaction I expected. Xiao Mei, what do you think about this?"

Xiao Mei stretched her hands out and yawned, which was so not the act of a princess. My eyes glinted in amusement at her nonchalant attitude.

"It was the expected response anyway, so I don't think much of it."

Xiao Jun raised his eyebrows in surprise, "Whaa.. Meimei, sometimes I find it hard to believe you are just fourteen. Look at your big mouth and Mei Hui look at your dear sister after a whole year at the border and a whole two years of not seeing me this is her best reaction, hmph, I'm so offended." I yawned and raised my
hand.

"What do you need, Your Highness?" Fen Yi asked.

While I was replying her, my sister clicked her tongue and said, "You know, Xiao Jun, you talk too much."

Xiao Jun just grinned in response and
took a sip of his wine.

I finished talking to my attendant and asked, "Xiao Jun, where is Xiao Kai? It's been quite long since I last saw him."

Something dark flashed on his face
briefly before he returned to his usual
demeanor, I blinked thinking I saw it
wrong.

"Big brother is fine, just a lot of duties as the crown prince, you know." I nodded slowly and narrowed my eyes as we made eye contact, he quickly dropped his gaze and took another sip of his wine, a long one this time.

I looked at my sister and communicated with my eyes, she
frowned and nodded.

"Enough with all this eye talk, I'm hungry." Whined Xiao Mei, Xiao Jun and Mei Hui laughed at her immature cuteness and I clicked my fingers and gave instructions to an attendant.

A maid walked in and bowed.

"Good morning, Your Royal Majesty, Your Highnesses." She quickly walked towards one of my sister's attendants and whispered something to her, the attendant nodded and delivered the message to my sister.

"Excuse me, it seems like I have to go now, the court ministers announced a meeting without informing me."

Three maids brought snacks and juices for Xiao Mei, I pursed my lips.

"They really have nerves to do that, I'm telling you big sister, I will show myself to them if they are not careful. you know what I mean." She nodded her head.

"It's fine, I will deal with them myself, and if it gets out of hand I'll call you, okay?"

I raised my hand and wiggled my fingers.

"Bye!" Xiao Kai chirped, she smiled and left with her attendants following after her.

Xiao Mei clicked her fingers and put three grapes in her mouth ''I have to attend to some things now and Xiao Kai you are coming with me,'' I said

Xiao Kai made a face at me and stole a bunch of grapes from his sister, she tapped his hand and made a warning face

''Sure, what is it about?'' he asked, I waved my hand dismissively " when you see, you will know." I replied.

"Fen Yi call an attendant to prepare the Royal guest quarters and take Xiao Mei there, Xiao Kai is coming with me."

I stood up and as I started walking out of the garden, I heard Xiao Kai mutter under his breath "I have a bad feeling about this." I smirked and exited the garden
