Childhood/The letter

Growing up it was difficult. I never had a normal childhood like other witches and wizards my age. Being raised by the dark lord was a blessing and a curse. The days he was home I barely saw him. He was always in the meeting room with his followers. But I knew he loved me; he just had a weird way of showing it. Some days were hard but one person always made it better.
Draco has been my best friend ever since his father started to follow my father. When everyone was having their meeting me and Draco were upstairs either watching TV or making fun of one another. My father would leave for weeks at a time. While he was gone I would stay at the Malfoy Manor. Mrs. Malfoy was the closest thing I had to a mother growing up. I couldn't imagine having a greater family to be with. We all had our problems but we were always there for each other in our good times and bad.
When my 14th birthday had arrived I never knew this was going to happen. Having my letter to Hogwarsts show up in the mail was the best thing that ever happened. I ran into my fathers office to show him my letter. "Oh my little girl your time has finally come. I have been waiting for this for 14 years. You will run this school just like I did. They have finally accepted you." My fathers words stuck with me.
Packing everything to go I could feel my heart racing. I have never been away from my father for more than a month, and even then I had the Malfoy's. Of course I will have Draco but will he be enough. All of the sudden I heard a knock at my door thinking it was my father. I told him to come in. Surprise to my eyes it was Draco, "looks like you're ready to go. I am so happy to have you come to school with me. The past 3 years have been boring without you Kate." His words kept playing in the ears. "Oh yeah why's that. You must miss me so much when you're gone." I say with a smirk on my face. " Oh you know I do" he says as he runs up to hug me. Once his arms are around my waist I suddenly feel my feet off the ground. He starts to spin me around and it becomes hard to contain my laughter. Once my feet are back on the ground and his arms are off me I couldn't hold back a smile.
"It's time for you to leave my little snake." I hear my father call from downstairs. "Coming father." My heart starts racing while I grab my bag and trunk. Making my way down the stairs I see Nagini, my fathers snake slither beside me. " You look lovely Kate." Some people find it weird I can talk to her but it has just become normal to me. My fathers followers were always scared of her but she cares for me deeply. "Thank you Nagini, I will miss you dearly." She starts to slither her way up my leg until her head is hug over my shoulder. "I know you will, I can smell it on you." Her words definitely are weird but I know she says it out of love. "Oh my little snake you look lovely. Are you ready to go?" My father has always called me and I have never questioned it. "Yes, father, I'm quite a bit nervous." My voice starts to shake. My father takes me into his arms. "My little poison you will do fantastic. I love you." My dad always tried to cheer me up in times like this. "I love you too dad."
Finally making it to the platform I have never been so happy. Of course my father couldn't come for obvious reasons, but Mr. and Mrs Malfoy were there to send me and Draco off. Narcissa pulled me into a tight hug, " You will do great my child, you have nothing to be afraid of. Draco will be with you every step of the way. I couldn't have asked for a better daughter even if you aren't truly mine." Her words were exactly what I needed to hear at that moment. " Thank you Narcissa, I really needed that. I love you." That was the first time I had ever said that to someone other than my father. Even though I have wanted to say it for a while, this had felt like the perfect time. "Oh my sweet girl please call me mom if you're comfortable, you're family now. I love you so much." Hearing her say that made me feel loved and cared for. "Thank you mom, I really appreciate it." My eyes start to water. I have never called anyone mom before. I never knew who my mother was but I have always seen her as one. Narcissa pulls away from our hug. "Good luck children and stay out of trouble." Lucius says as we are about to enter the train. "You've got this." Draco says as he grabs my hand and leads me on the train.
