Graduation.
The one thing Sabrina Rain has been waiting for her whole life. Not because it marked a new milestone in her life. Not because it concluded her childhood. No nothing like that. Sabrina, Rin to most people, was shaking with excitement for what came after.
Panic.
Crappy Carp Texans' way of celebrating senior summer. While no one knew how it started, no one tried to stop it either. Not until this year when two kids died during it. Jimmy and Abby. No one talked about it but we all knew that they died in Panic.
Panic was a simple game. Compete in the challenges, and win the grand prize. Sometimes that prize is 10 grand, sometimes it's 30 grand. The games would range from simple adrenaline-rushing challenges for some points to dangerous situations that can eliminate you from the game completely or in Jimmy and Abby's case, eliminate you permanently.
Sabrina had been waiting for this game her whole life. She knew the risks so she had taken the precautions. She wouldn't waste her one shot at escaping Carp, Texas for anything. Anyone.
Which is why she had avoided creating any emotional connections her whole highschool years. It might have ruined some things but it will help her in the long run. Sure everyone knew her, but they didn't care about her. And that's what will help her win.
Sabrina sat silently as each person walked across the stage. She mentally noted who she knew was competing and what their possible strengths would be. The one person that stuck out to her was Dodge Mason.
The new kid. Random. Not familiar. A complete nobody. Sabrina would otherwise ignore him, but she had heard he was inquiring about Panic and that made him interesting to her.
"Sabrina Rain." She stood and walked across the stage with a bright smile on her face.
Fawn and no one will expect a wolf.
The one thing Sabrina will always have on her side is the years of preparing for this game. The years of false pretenses and lies will pay off. No one will suspect a thing. Everyone thought Sabrina was a flight risk. Someone who feared her own shadow. They had known her for her whole life and never once had she shown any signs of being a strong or brave person.
Not yet anyway.
