Chapter 7: Diffusing the situation

Jenson’s POV 

I took deep straggled breaths and turned around, just to have Markus touch me on my shoulder to try and calm me down. I shrugged his hand off me “Touch me again and you will lose that hand! I’m going for a run, to see to it that he is taken care of and that he gets home safe. Cancel my meetings and have the head chef come to my office once I’m back.” 

Markus shook his head yes and turned around to usher Marcel out of my room. I stripped and opened the window and jumped, just as I was about to connect with the ground, I shifted and instantly ran towards the woods. 

Marcel’s POV

I had a million questions, like why was Markus part of this guy’s work staff, why was the LEADER the one stalking me, why isn’t Markus looking at me. All these questions roamed through my mind but had no way of escaping through my mouth. Markus kept walking in front of me, quiet, almost too quiet. I kept a steady pace behind him as I don’t know the palace like he does. I don’t know what happened and I don’t really want to know, all I know is my leg is aching and that my head is pounding. 

He turned a corner and before I could stop I ran straight into his chest. He looked down at me and asked me a simple question, but a question I feared would eventually come. “You aren’t just a warlock, are you?” my throat ran dry and the hair on my neck stood up “What do you mean, I’m a warlock and that's it. Nothing else?” 

He looked at me knowingly and turned around and kept walking but not without me hearing him utter the word “Then why were your last words a question?” I swallowed and started looking for a way out. I need to get to my mom and sister, they found out about my other shifter forms. My hands were sweating and my skin was clammy. I found a sliding door that led to the back garden and decided to take my chance and with a swift motion I opened the door with some help from my telekinetic abilities and ran. I ran like my life depended on it, because I very might be. I ran straight towards the woods and not once looked back to see if I was followed. I ran into branches and the leaves crushed under my feet, I pushed my legs to run faster, I didn’t want to be caught, I ran through a bush that temporarily blinded me but that’s all that it took.

I froze and tried catching my breath, a black wolf stood in front of me and I knew he was a shifter based on the sheer size of the animal. I steadily lifted my hand and showed him I mean no harm, I took a chance and slowly moved forward and the wolf snarled but calmed almost instantly. I kept moving forward at a slow pace to not scare him. He moved forward towards me and nuzzled his snout in my hand and rubbed his torso on me almost playfully. I giggled a bit and scratched him behind his ear. His black and dark brown fur was really soft. The wolf purred and licked my knuckles. I smiled and rubbed his fur for a bit before deciding to leave but the wolf had other ideas. As soon as my back was turned he jumped on me and pushed me to the ground and licked my face. I laughed so hard I couldn’t catch my breath. I really needed to leave so I stood up even tho this fucker was heavy. 

When I eventually stood up I decided to run and the wolf was not having that so he followed me, he followed me all the way to the outskirts of the woods close to town. I kept running until I couldn’t see the wolf anymore. I don’t know why he stayed in the woods. Everyone in this city was some sort of shifter so it wasn’t uncommon for a wolf to roam the streets. 

I paced myself while walking the rest of the way home, and when I got to the road that I needed to turn down to get to my street, Markus was there walking toward my street. My eyes grew wide and I ran for it, all I seemed to be doing today was running today, what is up with that. When I got past Markus he came running after me but screamed “WAIT! I’m not going to hurt you, I wanted to check if you were home safe!” I came to a halt and turned around and gave him a curious look, his hair was brown similar to the wolf in the woods. I came to a realization “If you don’t want to hurt me then answer me honestly…what kind of shifter are you?” he caught up to me and lifted his arms up and over his head to try and catch his breath “What?” I rolled my eyes and repeated myself which I hate doing btw “What type of shifter are you?” he replied with an unsatisfying answer ‘I am a bear shifter, but my shift caused problems so I don’t grow in full size I’m roughly the same size as your wolf.” My eyes grew wide and I turned around fully prepared to run again 

“No, please, just let me walk you home, Jenson will have my head if I let you run away again.” 

We walked in silence all the way to my front door, he cleared his throat and rubbed his arm ‘Jenson will never kick you out or shun you. I think he’s your Mate.” I smiled and rolled my eyes, when I was kid my mom told me stories of the old times where there were special people ‘chosen’ that were meant to be together. Like the others souls was half of the others. That they made each other complete in more than a romantic way, in like a something was missing and you finally found it type way “You can’t be serious, I’ve heard stories about them but they went extinct remember. Mates don’t exist and they never will.“ ''You don’t have to trust my word against your own feelings, but please hear me out?’ I sighed and opened the front door and let him in “If you so much as hurt me or my family I will kill each and everyone in this town, I’m done running from who I am, I’m done taking people's shit and letting them treat me how they want to, so whatever you have to say to me, make sure you come correct” he gulped and nodded 

“Follow me, the living rooms this way”
