noelle garcia was an observer. that was how she managed to cause so much trouble. she would watch people from afar and take mental notes on how she could cause chaos and disorder. her favourite thing about being stuck in sylmar juvenile corrections centre was that it was a mixed-gender facility. the boys and girls were not segregated.

so the second robby keene entered the facility, she noticed him. noelle was sitting on the top of the dining table, beside her were shawn payne, jacob clark and a few other boys. the girls from her cell were sat on the other side of the dining room.

"fresh meat." shawn remarked as he watched robby take a seat alone in the corner of the room.

"i wonder what he's in for." noelle hummed, crossing her arms. she glanced back over to her friends. "let's guess?"

"possession of illegal substances?"

"no, that was noelle." shawn shook his head.

"defamation of property?"

"that was also noelle."

"people can commit the same crimes!" noelle groaned. "and i was wrongfully accused of both of those, thank you very much."

"just because you didn't have malicious intentions, doesn't mean you were innocent."

"shut up, jacob!" noelle exclaimed. her voice had caught the attention of robby keene. he glanced over to their side of the room to see her lecturing a boy. robby watched the interaction as if it were some sort of reality tv show. the girl was undoubtedly entertaining— she was full of character and energy. it wasn't until shawn had caught him looking that robby glanced away.

"i'm gonna have fun with this." shawn grinned.

"leave him alone, yeah?" noelle sighed. "don't forget when you were the freshie— you were like a complete loner."

"that's not true."

"it's so true. no one wanted to speak to you." jacob reminded him. "no one but noa."

"exactly, so you owe me your life." noelle joked.

shawn scoffed, "shut up, jacob." he turned to noelle. "and i don't owe you shit."

"i mean you're still paying me back in cheetos for that soccer game you lost a month ago." noelle reminded him.

"why are you still thinking about that?" shawn glared at her. "my little brother keeps eating the cheetos my mom buys instead of sending them to me."

"and that's my problem, how?" noelle asked.

"rematch." shawn proposed. "i win, my debt is wiped clean."
