Music: Once upon a dream🍸, Lana Del Rey

Duncan took her unwounded hand and they weaved around the cathedral into a secluded back room.
It had extra supplies and a first aid kit.

She didn't feel good about this. But if she played it right, everything would be fine.

Duncan took the first aid kit, picking out bandages, tweezers, and disinfectant.

Lorelei sat down looking at the blood pooling in her hand, glass shards still visible in the cuts.

Duncan looked down at her, "You've still got glass in there, I'm going to need to remove it, okay?"
He said, getting to his knees, taking her injured hand.

She just nodded.

He took his sunglasses off to get a better look.
She couldn't help but notice the amber reflects in his eyes when they caught the light.

He began working to get each piece out. It hurt like hell, but she'd been through worse.

She didn't flinch, just watched him studying his features.
Admittedly he was good looking broad shoulders, sculpted cheekbones, hard not to notice.
Those eyes were so captivating in their focused intensi...

Wait a damn minute, calm the f#ck down girl.
He's a psychopathic killer.
And he murdered your parents?!??
There's nothing hot about that.
She thought to herself, regaining her self respect.

Treating her wounds he couldn't help but notice how little she was complaining.
Knowing it must've been extremely painful, he was surprised she wasn't even reacting.

"I'm going to disinfect now?" He said looking up at her.

She nodded again, avoiding his eyes.

He finished up disinfecting and wrapping, he stood back up, as did she.

"Thank you sir, you really didn't have to." She said, looking down at her feet.

"No worries, but I really did. I couldn't watch you bleed out on the dancefloor like that."
He insisted kindly.

What is he up to, acting nice like that?
Trying to pretend he doesn't have a special place reserved in hell!

Duncan noticed the way her face contorted.
He interrupted her little inner monologue.
"Uh miss, something wrong?"

She hadn't noticed she'd been glaring at him for a while.
"Just got lost in thought. I should be getting back now."
She said quickly turning to leave.

Before she could do so he grabbed her arm.
Instinctively she took the knife from her thigh garter and put it up to his throat.

He grabbed the hand and pulled it away.
"What the fuck do you think you're doing?"
He said angrily, shocked by her sudden reaction.

F#ck how do I save this?

"Oh goodness! You scared me, I took some self defense classes recently. You can never be too careful, so sorry."
She said awkwardly laughing, letting go of the knife.

He took a second to assess, she didn't look like a threat?
After all she'd shattered a glass in her hand.
She couldn't be too sharp.
Perhaps she's nervous, just jumpy.

But who just pulls a knife on someone that fast?
Someone who's done it before.

"I understand, are you nervous about something?" He asked his eyes darkening.

"Yes, to be honest... The people around here can be a little, frightening... But after you've been so kind to me, oh I just feel terrible. How can I make it up to you?"
She said biting her lip nervously.

Lorelei's acting skills had always been one of her best assets. She was playing almost every card in her deck naive and ditzy with a hint of flirtation.

Dammit she was looking up at him with those big doe eyes, god it was enough to make him feel sorry for what she'd done.

"I-I understand, you have to be careful. I just wanted to tell you to redress the wound later."
Stumbling on his words as he replied.

"Oh thank you, I wouldn't have known. But I really must be getting back. You understand?" She said sweetly.

"Yes, of course. Don't let me keep you miss- sorry I didn't catch your name?"
He asked.

"Lorelei, Lorelei Cappelli."
She said remembering the last name on the invitation.

"Duncan Kolhaus." He said shaking her uninjured hand.

Fake name, obviously.
"Thanks again, Duncan."
She said politely letting go of his hand.

"Before you go, don't forget your knife." He said picking it up and handing it to her.

"Of course! Goodbye Duncan." She said going back to the party.

That was way too close.
And he was way too damn close.
