Brandon's POV (Juliette's father)
Humans are nothing but disposable pets to them and they decide your fate. If you are too pretty, you can be taken, if you are in debt, you can be taken, if you are a criminal, you will certainly be taken, but not as a pet. The worst of it though, is that if you are fertile, you will be taken. Although they are all mighty beings, Mother Nature still ensured that some balance was maintained. The bloodsuckers that rip and tear us apart, require a human womb in order to procreate. This creates a unique balance and tension within our world, where although they hate us with all of their being, they need us to survive. Although they have no time limit to their life here on Earth, there are certainly a lot of silly battles amongst them that cause many deaths among their kind. They always make fun of our, "human nature," but they seem to forget that their, "vampire nature," can be argued to be much worse. We may be selfish and greedy at times, but each one of them believes that they rule the world and they will stop at nothing to achieve this. Therefore, to ensure their frigid bloodlines continue, they must find the rare fertile humans. As you can imagine, fertility is at an all-time low with humans as evolution has seen us procreating less and less as we have no desire to bring a child into this cruel world. With all of that being said, my daughter has been cursed with a human bloodline that is very fertile. The same unfortunate genetics which caused her mother and my great-grandmother to be taken by them once they realized they had a child of their own. This leads her to where she is today, a fertile nineteen-year-old, trying to survive and hide in a world full of monsters trying to take her as their pet to procreate with. A fate I hope she never has to meet.
