Assalamualaikum - Greeting in Islam

Waalaykumsalam - Reply to the greeting

Fi Amanillahsaid as Goodbye. Translated as: I leave you in the care of Allah

Jazakallah - said as Thank you

Masha Allah - said as an exclamation of joy. Usually used for praising

In Sha Allah - If Allah Wills

Ummi/Ammi - Mother

Abi/ Abu - Father

Ukhti - Elder sister

Akhi - Older brother

Jida - Grandmother

Nana - Grandmother

Ammaty - Aunt

Salah / Namaz - Prayer

Fajr - Morning prayer of Islam before sunrise

Dhuhr - Afternoon prayer

Asr - Prayer in the evening, before sunset

Maghrib - Prayer after sunset. The shortest prayer time.

Esha - Night prayer.

Ramadan - month of fasting in Islam

Eid - Celebrating time in Islam. There are two types. a) Eid-ul-fitr which comes after Ramadan and b) Eid-ul-Adha which is to commemorate the sacrifice of prophet Ismail Alaysalam

Dua - What Muslims wish from Allah

Astaghfirullah - Seeking forgiveness from Allah

Hafiz/Hafidh -Someone who has memorized the Quran. Feminine form: Hafiza/ Hafidha

Sabr - Patience

Abaya/Burqa - A loose garment (full sleeved loose dress) worn by Muslim women

Hijab - scarf worn around the head by Muslim women

Niqab - garment that covers the entire face of a Muslim women, except for their eyes

Uhibbuki/ Ana Uhibbuki - I love you (said to a female)

Uhibbuka/ Ana Uhibbuka - I love you (said to a male)

Bibi- Lady of the house

Jinn - (in Arabian and Muslim ) an intelligent spirit of lower rank than the angels, able to appear in human and animal forms and to possess humans.
