IT WAS a miracle that Aleena and Charlie were able to go on the ski lodge trip with their history class.

Charlie's mother was a single mom of four for a long time until she met Charlie's stepdad a couple of years ago. His stepdad was the reason he was able to go on the trip without his mother tagging along to make sure her "baby boy, the youngest of my four" was okay and safe.

As for Aleena, her older brother and sister had been on the ski lodge trip and Aleena had been admitted about not going until recently which threw her parents off. They questioned why the sudden change of heart and she gave them some halfhearted excuse about Charlie being alone during the trip, which was partly true, but they didn't buy it until Charlie came over and begged her parents to pay for her trip.

With that, they still didn't believe that Aleena suddenly wanted to go on the nature trip, but they paid for it, and the next week she sat in that classroom on the day of the trip as Mr. Matthews stood in front of the chalkboard with one word on the board.

"Nature." He smiled. "Makes us sneeze, put us in the infirmary. Nature." He seethed.

"What's he got against nature?" Maya asked. "Isn't he running the Nature Club?"

"He's only running the Nature Club because it was either that or the Ski Club." Riley answered.

"So why didn't he choose the Ski Club?" Lucas asked.

"He can't run the Ski Club because of what happened at the Mount Sun Lodge when they were our age."

"Nature." Mr. Matthews spoke and slammed his pointing stick toward the board. "The only place a bear can kill ya from. Nature."

"Well, what happened at the ski lodge?" Zay asked.

Riley turned in her seat, a small smile on her lips. "A mountain girl kissed him." She whispered.

"I didn't kiss back." He shared.

"Nature." Maya smiled and slammed her head on her desk, teasing the adult man who furrowed his brows towards her.
