"You're pregnant?!" I gasp. "But...what, why...how?"
Then I remember her screaming at Gino.
"Gino." She says it as an explanation/apology. I say it as an expletive through gritted teeth.
Maddie tears up. "Maddie don't cry!"
I hug her. "You're going to be okay."
She moves back and looks at me. "You cannot tell Mom, Kenzie! Promise me!"
"I won't tell Mom. But, you have to." I tell her. "I can't do that, Mackenzie." She says. "You can Maddie, and you have to. She can help you more than I can."
Maddie shakes her head. "No, she can't. I need my sister. I need you Mackenzie."
I hold both her hands in mine.
"Then I'm here. I'll be here for you. We're in this together. It's me and you, Mads."
"You promise?" She asks.
"I promise."
