"I am amazed at how quickly you're able to do that" she said watching as Anne carefully wound the tartan material around her body with skill hands.
Not long after Sebastian and her found themselves dried off and in their plain clothes Anne sent Ominis to collect her brother in order to get them all dressed for the days festivities. Ominis grumped out something about how difficult wrapping a great kilt was and needing Sebastian's assistance, so he bid her a gentle kiss upon her knuckles goodbye before exiting to join their blond friend.
It wasn't long before Anne emerged rifling through a trunk and tossing out a mass of tartan fabric to the boys before collecting her own. Anne quickly set out, pulling the tailored skirt in their family's pale green and blue plaid up her legs and tucking in her white blouse. It wasn't long before she set out to wrap the shawl around her shoulders that matched.
"Does everyone wear that for the celebration?" She asked Anne, amazed at how the simple fabric looked elegant once the look was complete.
"Most of them yes. Ominis May not be Scottish but he participates with a less tailored kilt than my uncle and brother" Anne explained running a bruh through her knotted hair.
"And the colors are those varied or..?"
"Family's usually have a very specific pattern and color that go back to the original clans. Our family's is blue and green, others in the hamlet you'll see are reds, yellows, purples, and all kinds of colors." Anne offered the information as she continued on her hair.
"Should I wear the green dress to match you all?" She inquired, wondering what would be the most fitting for the day.
Anne ross, walking back to the trunk and collecting more material of the same print before walking over towards her. "This was our mothers earasaid, I thought you could wear it today. You'll need to change into her underskirt to have underneath it, and I can help you with the rest but... would you?"
The sickly girl looked hopeful, asking her to outfit herself in the clothes of the twins departed mother. It felt like the highest honor but she still remained unsure how Sebastian would feel.
"While I am honored, will that not upset Sebastian if I were to wear this?" She asked, fingers delicately tracing over the material.
"Hardly. I imagine seeing you admits the rest of us wearing the Sallow family plaid will bring him great joy" Anne told her, hoping to convey the importance of such garments on days like today.
"Alright. Would you like me to help with your hair Anne? Plait it?" She asked, setting the fabric back on the bed as the sallow girl nodded.
"That would be lovely, thank you. Let us get you dressed first. All you need to do is change into this plain skirt and I shall start hand pleating this. Then I can help wrap it around you."
The process was simpler than she thought as Anne managed to get the material ready moments after she stepped into the pale green skirt and tucked in her white blouse. It wasn't long before Anne was walking around her, pulling the long wool material to drape effortlessly off her body, tightening it over her shoulders with a simple silver pin in the front.
"If you get too hot you may remove the pin and let it hang down more like an overskirt" Anne demonstrated by removing it, then replacing the way she had originally fitted the fabric.
She felt warm and comfortable bound in the plaid, as the chill of December was spilling in from the out doors. Stepping back to admire her work Anne nodded before sitting down on the bed to allow the other girl the chance to braid her brown locks.
