I walked back to class with a glum look on my face. Jake looked at me and gave my thumbs up then a thumbs down as if to say did it go well with Kaden or not. I put thumbs down then mouthed she doesn't want to go. He nodded. I didn't hear anything Mrs.Goodman had said for the rest of the day, I was trying to figure out how to get Kaden to come to the dance. Then I remembered that today Jake was coming over to my house to study after school, he could help me figure out a plan.

The bell rang for the end of the day.
"Hey," Jake smiled as he caught up to me,
"Hey, you ready to see my dress?" I smiled.
"You bet. So, Kaden isn't going to the dance at all?"
"Nope,"
"But we will find a way to have her come, right?"
"Yes. Even if I have to lie," I shivered at the thought of lying to my best friend.
Jake and I got on the bus, Jake handed the bus driver a slip of paper saying he can come home with me. The bus driver nodded, and Jake and I sat in the seat behind Kaden.
"Okay," I whispered so Kaden couldn't hear us, "You talk to her and see if you can get her to change her mind about the dance."
Jake nodded the said to Kaden, "Hey, Kaden, at lunch I remember hearing something about John liking you and wanting you to go to the dance with him."
Kaden had a confused look on her face, but that only lasted a minute. Her confused and innocent face quickly turned into an evil scowl.
"Listen to me pretty boy," Kaden rasped, "I know that Lily told you to do this so you better slump down in that seat and shut up, because I am never going to any dances EVER!"
Jake slumped down in the seat and stared at me in shock, and I returned the same glance. Kaden has never said or sounded anything like she had just demonstrated. I was so frustrated at the fact that Kaden is being rude to my boyfriend and the fact that she won't go to one stupid dance with a boy who likes her. All my anger and frustration built up inside of me and finally I burst,
"Kaden! You listen to me, you have no right to talk to my boyfriend like that!" I shouted so the whole bus could hear me.
"Lily," Jake whispered,
"I got this!" I said not taking my eyes off Kaden.
"You have no right to mess with my personal life!" Kaden shouted back,
"Me! Mess with your personal life!" I yelled disgusted, "All I want is for my best friend to have fun at a dance!"
"Well, then maybe I'm not your best friend," Kaden said with a deeper and meaner scowl appearing on her face,
"What do you mean?"
"This is what I mean," Kaden then turned and shouted to the bus driver, "I want to get off!"
"Kaden," I warned,
"Look outside Lily," Kaden said.
I looked outside, I saw a dark and uninviting forest. The bus jerked to a stop, Kaden stood up.
"Wait," I grabbed her arm, "Kaden what about your family, school, and me?"
She shook my hand off, "My family will be fine, school, I wasn't welcome there, and as for my best friend," Kaden paused, she almost looked like she wasn't going to leave.
I looked at her hopefully,
Her scowl returned once more, "As for my best friend, it looks like I'm still trying to find her."
I watched Kaden run off the bus and into the woods without another look back at the bus. I sat down, I was dumbfounded for the seconded time this week. Jake hugged me and I squeezed him back not even caring that this was our first hug. I pulled back, tears stung at the back of my eyes. Kaden? I burst out crying, a girl I had only known for a week was gone and I was crying about it. Jake held my hand and told me everything was going to be okay, and that Kaden will come to the dance tomorrow to tell me that she is okay. I stopped crying,
"You're probably right," I smiled tears still dripping down my face.

"This music is awesome," Jake smiled while we were dancing to 'Come on Eileen'
"Thanks," I said.
When we got home I introduced Jake to my Mom and sister, then we went up to my room and started to study. After an hour we took a break and started dancing, this took my mind off of Kaden. Jake took my hand, I blushed,
"Do you want to practice for tomorrow?" He asked.
"Of course," I laughed,
Jake twirled me then placed his other hand on my waist and I placed my other hand on his shoulder. We started to dance around my room staring into each other's eyes and smiling. When the song came close to an end Jake twirled me and dipped me,
I laughed, "You're the best guy ever!"
Jake raised his eyebrows, "Really? Well, I'm about to get better."
He smiled and leaned towards me, I froze. This is it Lily! Your first kiss! And it's with Jake Laner! He was about an inch away from my face, I closed my eyes and put my lips into my first kiss position, and when all seemed perfect, my Mom walked through the door.
