Aisha could hear her heart thundering in sensitive ears. The curls of her thick black hair clung to the back of her neck as sweat pricked at her skin. It itched incredibly, like electrical shocks of heat that traveled up and down her spine in waves.
It was impossible to sleep.
For days she had been experiencing these night sweats and anxiety, which was very unlike her. Confidence was a characteristic of exuberance with Aisha. She did not scare easy, was calculated, and could spot trouble approaching from miles away, quite literally. But something was troubling her, her wolf Arvin was unsettled deeply, howling inside her that something was wrong, but what? The first night had been painful, physically. The dull aching feeling in the pit of her stomach and the nausea that came with it was like a car ride with too many winding turns, but that pain was now... turning into something else.
There was no one to talk to about this type of thing, there were plenty of packs near by, but her father taught her that those other wolves there would be of no assistance, and that their lifestyle was dangerous for 'someone like her', could end up putting her in a situation where she could be killed. So, by no malice or ill intent of her own, she kept her distance. Would travel down the mountain into the nearby human cities to pick up groceries, and things for the small cabin she resided, but hadn't had much communication with her human friends in the past 3 years she had been up here.
Aisha was a lone wolf; in the literal sense; had been since she was separated from her parents 14 years ago when her Father chose to send her to an all-human boarding school to practice language, history, and art. She'd learned a lot during her time with the humans, technology being the biggest one, modern plumbing, developed personal relationships with the girls there. Life with the humans, though began with much pain and left her with abandonment issues, eventually developed into a very sweet alliance. One with learning and taught her how to navigate the world in a way that wasn't so separate as she had be brought up by her mother to believe, and a huge contrast from the country life her father insisted on. Her Mother didn't seem to mind it, and honestly before she knew better, neither did she. Mother kind of just went with the flow and seem to constantly be captivated with only the constellations, and things of nature. Gave Aisha lots of kisses, most days would spend just lying with her, seemed to feel like it was only just the two of them in the entire world. She hardly even paid any attention to her husband at all compared to Aisha. Of course, there were some nights. Those nights when Aisha would awake from her cot and wander out into the woods to search for the other two that should have been in the pallet along side her, only to find her usually gentle father atop her mother furiously mating her, and the groans and growls that came from her during her sated yet desperate time of need was probably the only times Aisha ever saw her Mother yearn with desire for her mate.
That memory was causing aches to pull in her stomach again. She closed her eyes and sat up in the queen sized bed, letting the sheets fall from around her, exposing naked shoulders to the gentle wind flowing from the outside of the ceiling length window. Deep breaths now,
"It's okay Arvin," She whispered as she felt her wolf start to growl internally.
Arvin's aggression had started to peak ever so slightly during the past few days that the blood moon phase neared, it was unavoidable to assume that whatever was happening to her was in direct relation to the damn thing. As her wolf started to calm Aisha slumped back against her pillow, eyes remaining closed.
The past 3 years she had lived alone atop this mountain came with it's benefits, it was the first time she had gone back to shifting regularly again, and formed a closer bond with Arvin who wasn't allowed much freedom during her time with the humans. The only reasoning Father presented to her at the time, before sending her to live with humans, was that she needed to connect with both sides of herself in order to be happy- whatever that meant.
