Letters and Leopards

7/7/1991 - Malfoy Manor

I watched the Owl flying towards my window. It had been a week since I had been adopted by the Malfoy family. I grinned as I thought of what had happened when they had asked if they could just take me and not my younger 'sister' Sophie Smith. I had been practicing using my newfound magic, that had appeared when I was ten and had learnt to control it. I had thrown a desk against the wall after they had begun ignoring me. I laughed softly at the memory of Soph cheering me on. 

I snapped out of my reminiscing and grabbed the letters from the owl and giving it some of the owl treats that Draco Malfoy had given me. I glanced over to him sitting at a desk, eyes flicking between an open textbook and a roll of parchment. His- our parents had made us share a room to 'build relationships.' I glanced back at the letters and immediately noticed the words 'Hogwarts school of witchcraft and wizardry' in big letters on the front, as well as an emblem portraying a Lion, Badger, Eagle, and Snake.

"Hey Draco!" I called and his head snapped to me, an annoyed frown dominating his features. I ignored this and continued. "We got letters!" I held his out to him and he moved towards me and took it, turning around and facing away from me. I inspected the envelope, it was yellow with emerald, green ink addressed Mr. L. Black, the windowsill, Malfoy Manor, Wiltshire, South of England, Europe. I pulled out the letter and read:

HOGWARTS SCHOOL
of WITCHCRAFT and WIZARDY

Headmaster: Albus Dumbledore
(Order of Merlin, First Class, Grand Sorc., Chf. Warlock,
Supreme Mugwump, International Confed. of Wizards)

Dear Mr. Black,                                                                                           
    We are pleased to inform you that you have been accepted
at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. Please find 
an enclosed list of all necessary books and equipment.         
Term begins on September 1. We await your owl by no later
than July 31

I immediately scribbled down a response and waited for Draco to finish carefully writing down his response in his perfect handwriting. I put my letter beside him and begun reading through the equipment list:

HOGWARTS SCHOOL
of WITCHCRAFT and WIZARDRY

Uniform
First year students will require:
1. Three sets of plain work robes (black)
2. One plain pointed had (black) for day wear
3. One pair of protective gloves (dragon hide or similar)
4. One winter cloak (black, silver fastenings)
Please note that all pupils' clothes should carry name tags.

All students should have a copy of each of the following:
