- Harley's POV -

I dropped my book bag onto the porch's staircase as I took a seat and ran a hand over my denim skirt. There was something about the chilly Saturday morning air that just screamed Halloween. A kid drops a dum dum lollipop onto my leather shoe as I gasped slightly.

"Hey, Batman. Here you go, I believe this is yours." I managed a small smile at the little kid as I handed it back to him.

"Thank you." The little boy dressed as Batman said in a small voice as he gratefully took his lollipop and continued frollicking down the street as he swung his candy basket excitedly. He took his mom's hand and went to join the other trick or treaters, or should I say trick or tricksters. Some of these kids stole candy when they had the chance, the little rebels that they were.

I stared into the sunrise in a daze feeling myself slip into this dissociative state of sunshine.

"Harley? Did you hear me?" My mom calls from behind me, leaning on the doorframe. She looked concerned. "I called you once."

"Huh?" I snapped out of the daze. "Oh. I must've not heard you. Sorry, mom."

"You've got some candy giving to do." She smiled, raising her eyebrows at me expectantly.

"Yeah, yeah totally." I nodded, getting up as I slung my red book bag over my shoulder.

"Is there something wrong?" She asked me. "You look like you've seen a ghost."

"No, I was just thinking..." Though I was quite offended, I didn't exactly say anything. Not even my own mother knew of this supernatural sixth sense I had since I was only twelve.

"It's the house, isn't it? You don't like it." She assumed.

We've only been living in this brick house for two days, since we were new to the neighborhood. And as much as I didn't want to rain on my mom's parade, I hated it here. I didn't know why, but I just did.

"No, mom. Look maybe I'm a little homesick, but I love it here. Okay? I really do." I lied. I just didn't want her to worry. I knew I'd get used to things eventually, but there was something unsettling about living in this house and I didn't know what yet... But I was going to find out.

I walked up to her as she handed me the basket of candy. "Have fun honey." She said. "I'm working a late night tonight, so I'm not going to be home until after midnight."

"I'll see you later then. And I'll heat something on the stove for you when you get back, alright?"

Mom nodded, the smile not once leaving her face. "I think you're gonna really like it here. Brooklyn's not so bad."

"Trying." I gave her the notion as I chuckled lightly. "Now you should get going, you don't wanna be late."

"Hey, I'm the mom here." She joked.

I motioned my hands for her to get going. I smiled at her once more.
