The city of Mostar is located in Bosnia and Herzegovina. The river Neretva passes through the city. In that town there are many small houses where families live. A girl Nera lived in one such house. Every day when the wall clock struck nine, Nera would go to the river to wash her clothes. One sunny day, while Nera was washing clothes, she heard some commotion and looked up. She saw a boy standing on the edge of the bridge. To her astonishment, the boy suddenly jumps off the bridge and falls into the river. He begins to drown. Nera jumped into the river after him and pulled him ashore. The other villagers saw Nera's brave act, and named the river Neretva in her honor. Since then, jumping from the bridge has become a custom. Tourists came to Mostar to watch people jump from the bridge into the river. The river still flows today, and if you go to Mostar and look at the river from the bridge, you might see Nera still washing clothes.
