What if it was HUMAN! (#2)

When I do these things, I usually listen to the piece while I sketch the OC and colour it. Music can give a lot of details and ideas by the vibe it gives and this time's choice is a complex one: 1812 Overture by Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky

It was composed in just three months in 1880 to commemorate the Russian victory over Napoleon in 1812. It was composed to celebrate the Tsar's jubilee, the 1882 Russia All Arts Exhibition and the completion of the cathedral Christ The Saviour. Sadly, neither of those grand events happened and the grand piece premiered in a tent near the unfinished cathedral.

Most people recognise the piece as That one Tchaikovsky piece with cannons but I think that they miss the point here. It's not just the artillery fire that's impressive, the sheer symbolism and sweetness of some of the lyrical melodies throughout, the clever use of the intertwining themes. It's a nice experience and you can look deeper into the piece and perhaps even listen it whole.

Now, without further ado... WHAT IF IT WAS HUMAN?!

I thought of the piece as something, well, masculine

I thought of the piece as something, well, masculine. Sheer raw power, y'know. I dressed him in Napoleonic War-era Russian uniform and made him hold Napoleon's hat (called a tricorne btw), since Napoleon got absolutely wrecked in the aftermath. And, of course, The Almighty Cannon, since the Battle of Borodino marks the first time cannons had ever been used in warfare.

Did I nail it?
