Primitive Desires
spoken poetry
performed by Callista Chalome BeltranPrimal need to survive, as humans say.
Run—when there is something to fear, even in confusion.
Identify where the threat is from, and never go near it again.
Maddening, isn't it?Is that how it should be?
To be in constant dread of what we could not understand;
In lieu of love, which humans lack the definite words to put meaning;
Vaguely, they tried... and it scared them of its idea;
Or maybe just me?I am scared of love.
So much, that I run from the thought of you;
An inanimate thing, that only you can give life;
Indestructible at best... which I fear, yet I cannot run from.
Afire, like the primitive desire to survive.Home, which I only found in you.
And with every beginning of this poetry,
I spelled what I feared;
I spelled the name of survival;
To understand, to want what I cannot see.I spelled love, which I have embraced in you.
I love you, Yvo. Happy birthday.
