The owner of the shop handed us two steaming cups of hot chocolate immediately and I paid for it before Connor could. "Let me, please." I said and he shrugged, letting me.

We both walked away from the shop, with bagel in one hand and hot chocolate in other. I didn't know their combination tasted good until I finally tried it. Everything felt perfect at that moment; the food, the environment, light breeze chilling me and last but not the least, Connor Hunt.

"That one right there is a cinema. If you want to watch a movie, you can come here." he said, pointing towards a cinema that looked like an old haunted house.

"And that red building is a museum." he pointed towards a building at the farthest corner of the road.

"And this beautiful lady right here sells the best burritos." he said as we passed by an old lady. The lady smiled at him and he returned the smile with his kind one.

He kept on walking, showing me different places but I had forgotten about them. Instead, my focus was on the very friendly and kind man walking beside me. The way he talked about his town held so much love that I felt ashamed of badmouthing this place in front of him.

We spent almost one and a half hour there, eating different food items and going inside various shops. Time seemed to fly away when with him. He was a very knowledgeable man which was evident in the way he talked or described things.

At almost 9, we were back to his car standing at the edge of the market. He opened the door for me and soon, we were on our way back to home.

"I must say I didn't know Raven Hills had so many colors." I said in awe.

He grinned in return as he kept his focus on the road. "Told you," he added.

"Thanks." I said.

"The pleasure is all mine," he replied.

The car then went silent; both of us staring at the empty road. We were once again on the deserted part of the town; the parts that made me scared of this place.

I closed my eyes to stop the weird feeling in my stomach and rested my head back. But a minute had passed when the car came to an abrupt halt and my eyes flew open.

"What happened?" I asked.

"I don't know," he said and walked out of the car to check what was the issue. I did the same and followed him outside. There was not a single car beside us and the silence was freaking me out.

"Maybe I should call the mechanic." he said and pulled out his phone whose battery had died unfortunately.

"I'll call," I said and pulled out my phone. He gave me the number and I dialed it, waiting for someone to answer.

"Nobody's answering," I groaned in exasperation.

"It's okay, don't get worried." he said and placed his hand on my arm in a comforting manner.

"This road... It looks scary." I said, looking around. There were trees on both sides, leading to jungle probably and the roads were so dark that we couldn't see the end of the road clearly.

"I know. Don't worry, I won't let any animal come near you." he said and the look in his eyes calmed me. The look that told me that I could trust him and he would find a solution. At that moment, the urge to close the distance between us overpowered me and I stepped closer.

His expressions changed at my action and I could see the hint of redness spreading on his neck despite the dark. For a small moment, his eyes flickered to my lips but he looked away immediately.

Before I could take another step forwards, a loud bang deafened us for a moment. The sound of shattering of glass penetrated my ears and suddenly, I was pulled into a chest.

With my eyes closed and my heart pounding hard, I took some deep breaths and only after a moment realised that Connor was shielding me with his large body.

"What happened?" I asked, my voice trembling.

"I... I don't know. Maybe someone aimed a bullet at us," he said, sounding equally distressed.

We parted from each other, our eyes locking for a moment and then he turned towards the car. The windshield of the car was broken but there was no sign of any bullet. He leaped forwards to check it and found a huge stone that probably caused the shattering.

"How did it reach here?" he said and I shrugged.

"I don't know." I answered.

"What will we do now?" he said in stressed voice and let out a deep sigh.

I dialed Bella's number and then realised that she was probably in her study right now. Whenever she was in her study, she would always switch off the phone to focus on the witchcraft.

"Look, a car." he pointed and apprehension filled my stomach when I found the familiar black car coming towards us. Once it stopped beside us, a man stepped out of it and I didn't need to look closer to identify him. I could recognise these soulless blue eyes even in my sleep.

As he walked towards us, his eyes remained focus on me. Unknowingly, I scooted closer to Connor and wrapped my hand with his.

"Sapphire, is it?" he asked, cocking his head to a side and squinting his eyes.

"Yeah," I replied and remembered what Bella told me. This man right in front of me was an animal and being near him made me dizzy with fright.

"Wow, your car looks seriously damaged." he said, observing the car. "Do you both need a lift?"

"N..."

"Sure. It will be a great help, Mr. West." Connor said before I could. I gulped and tried to mind link with Connor but it wasn't any helpful.

He assessed Connor from head to toe. "And who is this friend of yours, Miss. Carson?" he asked, staring back into my eyes. It was difficult to keep looking into those blue pools of unending depths.

"This is Connor, my neighbour." I said, clearing my throat.

"Just neighbour? I thought we were friends." Connor whispered with a smirk but I couldn't reply, not with a werewolf standing few feet away from me.

As we walked towards the car, Atticus West opened the door to passengers seat for me. Connor had already seated himself in the backseat and he looked like he was waiting for me to sit with him.

My eyes switched between both Connor and Atticus and at the end, I opened the back door and slid inside, ignoring how Atticus' eyes darkened at this action.

This drive was going to be the death for me.
