SINNERS AND SAINTS.

chapter five, when we call for help.
[ season one, episode four ]

BUCK COMES HOME WITH HER THAT NIGHT. And the next, and the one after. Two weeks later, the two of them and Cami help move him into his own bedroom. For real, this time.

Ivy sets ground rules. No women. No putting Cami in any kind of danger. He agrees. He doesn't break them. Never.

Nights turns from mommy-daughter time to mommy-daughter and Buck time. Cami watches from the island as her mother and Buck make dinner for the three of them while music plays in the background. Sometimes it's Taylor Swift, courtesy of Buck, sometimes is Bob Marley, courtesy of Ivy. Cami never complains. In her innocent eyes, she has a Daddy now.

Her family is complete.

To her mother, to Ivy, she has a best friend now. She looks into the eyes of Evan Buckley and smiles. She laughs at his jokes, she sits on the couch and watches movies with him, he helps with Cami, without question.

And for Buck. . . for the first time in his life, he doesn't feel unwelcome. He knows that he can walk through the front door after unlocking it with his own key and be greeted by his girls. He can be himself without be reprimanded for it. He's at home.

A family formed.

Ivy watches anxiously as Buck approaches Bobby with the question about his book holstered. When he reaches the man, he unholsters it and and pulls the trigger.

Bobby doesn't say a word as he gets up. And then as he moves past Buck, "it's none of your business." He says.

Buck turns, "I know it's a list of people you saved, alright?" Ivy's brows furrow. How does he know that? Only she knows that. She knows he keeps track of the people he's saved but he's never told her why. "Right now, there are forty-six names in it. But there's space for a hundred and forty-eight. Why that number?"

Bobby looks to him. "You read my book."

"I mean, I— I peeked once or twi—"

He's cut off by Bobby grabbing him by his uniform and slamming him against the wall. Ivy shoots up from her seat, rushing over to the two men, two of the six most important in her life.

"Bobby," she says gently.

Bobby's eyes move over to her, then back to Buck. He releases the young man before storming off. He leaves the twenty-six year old and twenty-four year old in a stunned silence.

The silence is broken by the bell.

Despite working with the LAFD for two years and responding to some of the most horrific calls, Ivy isn't sure she's ever seen something this bad. She sits on a rescue boat that's rushes towards the downed plane while others comb the water around looking for ejected passengers.

Her hearts thuds in her chest as the sea water hits her face. It reminds her of Florida, the way she spent endless hours in the comforting waters she called home.
