I stood at the water's edge, breathing deeply. The sky was cloudy, and the air was moist, with the faint smell of rain. I loved days like these, because they reminded me of myself.
I turned, and saw that the kid from school was approaching me. Jacob. I let out an exasperated sigh. This kid bugs me.
"Hey, Sam." He said, standing beside me.
"Hey." I forced a smile, as always. People always think that there's something wrong with you if you're not all grand and happy all the time. Society must not have any feelings, outside of 'happiness', that is.

I sit on the soft dirt again, gripping it between my fingers.
"What are you doing here?" I ask. Is he stalking me? Creep.
"Oh, yeah, my sister's at practice in that field over there." He pointed to a fenced in area with a batting cage. I got bored and took a walk."
"Fun." I said, watching Jacob throw the rock in the water, splashing one, two, three, four times.
"Tell me about it."
"And I saw you over here, so I decided to come over here....I was bored walking anyway. I ho
Jacob wasn't so bad after all I guess. Too bad I wouldn't be around long enough to make friends with him, if you wanna call it that.
"Wanna come to my house on Friday?" Jacob asked. Dang it. I guess I'll have to wait.
"Sure." I said. What was I getting myself into? I glanced at my watch. I had enough time.
"So do you have a pen and paper, so I could get your number and address?" I asked.
"I'll have to ask my mom. Come on." He stood and started to run towards the softball field. Thus began our short-term friendship.
