As a small child, Katerina was kind, innocent, and beautiful. With dark chocolate ringlets, and eyes the color of the rich brown earth, she was one of the sweetest children you'd ever meet. She loved animals, and her father was her role model. Her mother never was much in her life like most moms were. Here and there, Samantha ended up with three kids, none of which she raised herself. However, in Katerina's mind, her mother was just sick. That's why she couldn't see her, or at least that's what her father told her.

"PLEASE daddy! I want mommy!" Katerina would scream in the car on the way home from her Aunt Dana's house. "You can't see mommy baby, she is sick." And so, Katerina would cry her tears in silence the rest of the way home. This memory would stick with Katerina for the rest of her life. It was, after all one of the first times she had felt that much pain. Emotionally, at least.

Katerina was meant to see her mother every other weekend. But as she got older, she became more and more uncomfortable about seeing her mother. Katerina's cries for her mother had turned into cries to stay away from her mother. She had started to realize just how odd her mother acted at times. It made Katerina very uneasy. She wasn't quite sure why, maybe it had to do with why she was always so "sick"? "Please, daddy. I don't want to go. Please, please don't make me." pleaded a five year old Katerina. "I'm sorry, honey. You have to, it's not my choice." Her father, Frank explained. After that day however, if Katerina didn't want to go, she didn't go. Frank had said to hell with the courts, he was going to do what was best for his daughter.
