"No" my mom replied
"Jack's check ain't coming in this month?" i asked. Every month, Jack would get a 2,000$ alimony check from his ex-wife
"We're getting evicted! I don't know what to do" i was shocked to hear this, we paid rent every month, sure we paid it late but we paid it, i always gave my mom money to pay rent and bills
"How? You been paying rent, right?" i asked
"No i haven't, look jack needed the money so each time you gave me money i was giving it to jack" i was really angry with my mother so all those months she had been lying to me
"Please tell me you're kidding! Why would you do that!?" i exclaimed. My mother looked at me with shame and guilt
"How much do we owe?" i asked
"About 1,000$ and you have to have the money by the end of this week " i was completely angry and shocked that my mother would do this. I would never be able to pay that
"Me?! Why don't you ask Jack for the money!?"
"No! He doesn't know about the eviction, he can't know, he'll get mad at me and leave and if you're gonna live here you have to start pitching in" my mom was sitting at the kitchen table and buried her face in her hands
"Mom, you gotta stop living your life like this! Think about Lucy and Mateo. Why can't you for once just do one thing right!" I yelled, then i walked over to the fridge to get a drink
"What are you doing that's so great with your life, Veronica!? I mean, you quit school, you're working a deadbeat job with your worthless friends, so what's so great about you!"
"At least I have a job! At least my friends treat me like family, and they love me more than you ever could! If it wasn't for Lucy and Mateo, I would've left you a long time ago!" Then i walked to my room and slammed the door
I was so tired of fighting with my mom, and what i said to my mother was true. If it wasn't for my siblings, i would have left a long time ago
(NEXT DAY)
I woke and got ready for the day, I wore an orange spaghetti crop top with black cargo jeans with suspenders and black flats, I put my hair into a bun And head off to work,I had to work two jobs now, sometimes I worked at the diner or worked at the garage today was my day to work at the diner while dream went to work with Alex and emmett
I was running late today cause I had to check up on mateo and lucy
"Hey grandma" I went to hug my grandmother
"Hi mija, shouldn't you be at work?" She asks
"Yeah I'm on my way. I just wanted to see Lucy and mateo"
"They're in their room" so I walk down the hallway and open the door and see my little siblings
Mateo is reading, and lucy was playing with her dolls
"Ronnie!" Mateo happily said
"Hi baby boy!" Then him and lucy raced to give me a hug
"We missed you!" Lucy said
"Yeah well i've missed you guys too! I have to work today, but when I get off, I'll take yal to get some pizza. Then we can go to the arcade. Does that sound like fun?" I asked them. They both nodded their heads and gave me one last hug before I left
"Look now I gotta go, I can't be late, but yal be good for grandma, okay? Love you babies, i'll see you guys later" Then I kissed them both and left to work
I worked till 2pm and finally got off work, lila and bones didn't show up because they had to go out of town. They didn't tell me why, which was weird
I got home and noticed lila car was there, there was also another car, it wasn't jack's and it wasn't my mothers so i wonder who it could be, so I got inside and noticed, lila, bones and alex sitting on my couch
"Hey girl, how'd you get in?" I asked
"You gave me an extra key, remember?" I looked around and saw a big black duffle bag on the floor, then I heard someone knocking on the door
"I'll get it" Alex announced. It was Emmett and Dream
"What's that?" I asked
"Girl we got a surprise for you" Lila said in a soft, girly way, then alex went and stood right next to lila
I don't know why, but I got excited and started to smile
"What?" I asked, then alex and lila spread their arms towards the hallway, and Cole walked into the living room
"HEY-YA!" lila said in a nasal girly way
Quickly, the smile on my face started to fade away
"Cole?" I said
"Veronica Delgado, what's happening, baby?" Then Cole came up to me and kissed me, like he forgot what happened between me and him
We were 3 seconds into the kiss, and I quickly got him off of me
"DON'T EVER DO THAT TO ME AGAIN!" I shouted, then I punch Cole in the arm hard
And i walked away to my room, leaving Cole confused
Narrative POV:
"Don't take it personal, Cole, she's been like since you left" alex commented
Cole walked down the hallway and went into Ronnie's room
"Hey what was that all about?"
"Get out Cole" Ronnie angrily said
"Come on, Ronnie, don't be like that, I'm sorry, okay?"
"Sorry? That's all you have to say!? You left us, and you came back like nothing happened!"
