"No," Lisa replied, taking a seat on one of the remaining chairs in the living room. "She knew about Mrs. Kim and Owen and Donna, but not that it had been deemed a murder/suicide."
"And she found out tonight," Jin assumed.
"Yeah," Lisa confirmed with a sigh. "She was here for a little while, and I guess when she went home, she and Mr. Kim got into an argument. I don't know all the details, but apparently Jennie wanted to know why Mr. Kim kept her locked up in the house all the time."
"So, Joo Won told her? Just like that?" Jisoo continued for Lisa. At Lisa's nod, she shook her head, her anger clear. "God, poor Jennie."
"No wonder she was upset," Jackson mumbled, hurting for his friend and wishing there was something, anything, that he could do for her.
"What did she say to you afterwards?" Jin wanted to know.
"Nothing," Lisa replied. "I was getting ready to go to bed and I thought I heard something outside, so I went to check. She was sitting on the back porch crying. I have no idea how long she'd been there," she told them, then explained how she'd said nothing to her, only continued to cry and how she'd then taken her upstairs after she'd fallen asleep.
"Joo Won should have told her everything before," Jisoo stated firmly.
"How?" Jin questioned her. At Jisoo's glare, he shrugged and said, "I'm not saying he was right to keep quiet, but what was he supposed to say to her? You killed your family, so I made them think you'd killed yourself as well and then kept you holed up in your house?"
"I guess he thought saying nothing was the lesser of the two evils," Jackson interjected, his voice tired and slow.
"It doesn't really matter," Lisa interrupted the discussion. "Now she knows, and obviously she's upset about it."
"Which is why you called us," Jin filled in, assuming that was the reason.
"Sort of," Lisa corrected, pausing before she laid out her full reason. "I want to prove Jennie is innocent."
Silence followed. None of the three friends had expected her affirmation. And to say that they were shocked would have been an understatement. Jin stared at Lisa curiously, wondering what was in it for Lisa. Jisoo and Jackson merely frowned, wondering how in the world they would be able to do something like prove Jennie's innocence.
"I don't mean to be rude, Lisa, but have you been drinking?" Jin asked, only half-joking.
"No," Lisa denied. "I'm completely serious."
"But how?" Jackson blurted out. "We're not cops or anything, and the real cops did an investigation and blamed Jennie."
"By real cops, I assume you mean the ones here in Cambria?" Lisa questioned and continued without waiting for an answer. "The ones whose chief is the father of Jennie's rapist and who have already proved to be swayed by power and probably money?"
"Good point," Jackson conceded.
"I'm guessing you have something in mind?" Jin asked Lisa.
"Sort of," Lisa answered and picked up the folder she'd set down on the coffee table before everyone had arrived. She set it on her lap but didn't yet open it. "I've got a connection in law enforcement, someone outside Cambria. I think I could convince him to take a look at the case."
Jisoo thought about it for a moment, then shook her head. "You can't do that, Lisa," she disagreed vehemently. "If you told them she was alive they would arrest her regardless. And what if she is still found guilty? We can't let her go to jail."
