Thus Vishnudev goes to the city of Jalandhar. There Vrinda, the wife of the king of daityas, saw a dream where her husband was in a miserable dead condition.

Thinking that it foreboded evil, she began to cry. She was excessively frightened. She did not get happiness or mental peace anywhere in the ornamental arched gateways, attics, terraces etc. Then, accompanied by two friends, she went to the city park.

There also the young woman wandered but did not get happiness anywhere. She went from forest to forest without being aware of it herself.

While wandering, she saw two Rakshasas who were extremely terrifying. They had leonine faces, extremely terrible on account of the curved teeth.

On seeing them she became much afflicted and ready to flee from there. She then saw a calm and tranquil ascetic who had resorted to the vow of silence. He had a disciple too.

Out of fear she put her tender arms round his neck and said, “O sage, protect me. I have sought refuge in you.”

On seeing her agitated and closely pursued by the Rakshasas, he angrily made a loud hum sound whereby he turned back those terrible demons.

On hearing her words, the sage kindly looked up. By that time two monkeys came there, bowed down to him and stood by.

Directed by the gesture from his eyebrows they went up into the sky. Within half a moment they came back, bowed to him and stood in front of him. They were holding a pair of hands, a head and a headless trunk.

On noticing that the head, the trunk and the hands were those of Jalandhar, she fell on the ground unconscious, miserable due to the distress of her husband.

After sprinkling her with the water, from his water pot the sage consoled her. Placing her forehead upon the forehead of her husband, she cried piteously.

She urges the sage to bring him back, the sage agrees and then vanishes. Then Jalandhar appears, Vrinda is extremely delighted in her mind on seeing her husband once again. Staying within the forest in his company for many days, she sported about.

NOW NOW NOW ! comes the controversial part.

Now sexual intercourse in Sanskrit is called सम्भोग, now YOU TELL ! Where is the word sambhog used in the shlok ?

Surat doesn't mean sexual intercourse, it refers to dhyaan, aatma or awastha.

So the correct meaning is, jab tak Vishnudev Jalandhar ke roop mei (Maya ki awastha mei) Vrinda ke saath the, uss awastha ke annt ke baad Vishnu ji ko dekh kar Vrinda ne unse krodhit ho yeh kaha~

BUT WAIT ! Devi Bhagwatam too has the same story, and the sambhog word is mentioned there -

रेमे रमापतिस्तत्र रामया सह नारद । सा साध्वी सुखसम्भोगादाकर्षणव्यतिक्रमात् ॥ १७

But even here, the translation is wrong -

-- O Dear! Full one Samvatsara the war lasted betwixt us. All the Daityas were killed. Then Brahma Himself came and mediated. Peace, then, was brought about and by the command of Brahma, I gave over to the Devas their rights. When I returned to my home, Śiva went back to His Śivaloka. Thus saying, Hari, the Lord of the world, slept and then engaged in sexual intercourse with her.

But do focus on the phrase सुखसम्भोगादाकर्षणव्यतिक्रमात् , it consists of four words - Sukh, Sambhog, Akarshan, vyatikram.

Seeing sambhog, the translators quickly wrote sexual intercourse, without seeing the entire context of the phrase. They didn't check the meaning of vyatikram or vyatikramaat, which means 'badha' or 'Na ho pana'.

Hence the actual translation would be that Vrinda ko Jalandhar ko dekh anand toh mila, parantu sukh, sambhog aur akarshan mehsoos nahi huya. Meaning Vrinda didn't feel that attraction which she usually felt with Jalandhar. Hence she came to know it was Narayan.

So sexual intercourse is wrong translation of the shlokas. And Vrinda ji was not raped.

And if anyone is still wondering what Narayan did was right or wrong, breaking chastity of a woman like that..... Well according to Devi Bhagwatam, Vrinda was ansh of Mata Lakshmi only and Jalandhar was a previous birth of Sudama, who also is described to be ansh of Narayan.
