;; Prologue ;;

"C'mon Luke, you can't always be a mummy's boy ─ let's go clubbing."

Luke hated being called a mummy's boy, he just loved his mother greatly and wanted nothing more than to please her. She deserved a perfect child to be proud of, and that's all Luke wanted to be so that's all he's ever strived to do. He got good grades, and is now part of a super famous band.

Luke looked at Calum in horror and shook his head. "I'd rather stay in, I can keep Michael company yeah?"

It was normal for Luke and Michael to stay home when Ashton and Calum went out they were simply less of party animals. They'd rather stay in and watch orange is the new black and eat mass amounts of pizza.

"No." Calum shook his head and plopped down on the couch beside Luke. "C'mon you need a little reputation, people probably think you're a prude with that purity ring and need to call your mom over everything."

"Nah, I think Michael needs a friend ─ wait why aren't you forcing Michael out?" Luke pouted and crossed his arms stubbornly.

"Because Michael is barely talking to me lately, he's like distancing himself and shit, now get up." Calum said standing to his feet and extending an arm for Luke to grab.

Maybe he's distancing himself because you never do anything he'd like to do, you never let him talk anymore, if anything you're just cutting him off ─ is what Luke wanted to yell, but he kept his mouth shut to keep from starting a fight.

Luke groaned and shook his head making Calum pout. "Please?"

"No."

"Pwease." Calum whined.

"Nope."

"Cuddle?"

"Ew no."

Calum smirked and stepped closer to Luke, "I won't cuddle you of you come with me."

"Have I ever told you how much I hate you?" Luke giggled standing up beside Calum and throwing a light punch to his shoulder.

And that's how Luke found his way to his first big party, tried maraijuana for the first time, lost his virginity, got his first hangover, and changed his reputation forever ─ because now he was expected to be some wild party animal, and he just wanted to live up to peoples expectations.

Not only that but he was disappointing his mom and completely losing control of himself.

Michael sat on his bed with his phone in hand, the boys left him again ─ even Luke went this time, and normally Luke was the one to keep Michael's mind off things. For example, the words flashing on his screen and the voices screaming in his head.

Sometimes he'd avert his eyes towards the large amount of bracelets on his arm and think about the thick lines beneath, he hated them because they showed how weak he really is. He hated the idea of being weak, that's why he'd been trying to stop but somehow he found himself adding the stupid red lines to his stomach and legs ─ he hated his stomach and legs because they were just so fat.

He wasn't always like this, sure he was insecure before because he was a little chubbier than the other boys and often got shushed for being so loud. Though lately he'd been alone more often, and he'd noticed things had changed. Some fans thought he was too fat and well, he doesn't like to displease people ─ plus he too felt like he could lose a little weight.

So Michael got up off his bed and gently placed his phone down on his pillow, even though he'd have preferred to throw it out the window in hopes it would get the words to erase from his memory. And he made his way towards the bathroom thinking of what it is he'd ate that day.

It took him a while to come up with anything because he was trying not to eat much anymore but came to the conclusion that he'd eaten a slice or two of pizza just an hour ago ─ just that and nothing more.

But it was still too much.

So he began to do one thing he'd never though he'd turn to and his fingers found their way to the back of his throat.

The boys were at a small cafe together, the four of them were all together for once, three out of four had a hangover ─one of which was fighting with his girlfriend ─ and the other was in complete pain from the lack of food in his body and recent blood loss. It was quite awkward really, they didn't know what to talk about.

Luke finally had enough of the silence and cleared his throat. "You know were supposed to be best friends right? Best friends talk and laugh together, all we have is this awkward tension and nobody stalked for the past twenty minutes."

"I'm sorry what the hell would you like me to do Luke, huh? Drop everything so you can be happy?" Ashton asked not even looking up from his phone as his thumbs moved quickly to reply to his girlfriend.

"How about you realize that you and her have been dating for a few weeks and we've been your best friends for years, and then allow us to have some time around you without her being around yeah?" Luke gripped his cup tightly in his hands, the force was almost string enough to break the cup.

"She's not here Luke, I sure as hell don't see her."

"Oh I'm sorry, it sure fucking feels like it when you're texting her the entire time you're with us." Luke scoffed taking a sip of his warm liquid.

"I'm tired of yo─" Ashton started but was cut off when somebody tapped his shoulder.

"Hi, um I noticed how you all look really upset and I just wanted to tell you about something. It won't take but a minute." She added shooting a glance at the security the next table over.

"Okay." Calum smiled at the girl before propping his chin against the palm of his hand.

"So there's this website called help me hotline right, basically you're hooked up with a complete stranger and you're kinda partners. It's just like a buddy system where you have somebody to vent to, just let everything out and they try to like help you out." She explained. "I got on the site a few years back when I struggled with abusive parents, I met my current best friend on there and she helped me get my life back on track."

She gave them a large smile which the boys returned ─ two of which were fake because one boy was pissed and the other simply had a hard time to smile.

"Thank you." Michael said looking up to see her name tag. "Emma, seriously thanks."

She nodded and gave them a small wave before going back behind the counter.

And two of four boys had decided they were going to check out the site, and hopefully get themselves in a better place in life.
