---------------------------------------------------------

The lights of the stage shine in my face, and temporarily blind me. After all this time performing and staring into those spotlights, I still freeze up. My thought bubble is popped when the interviewer in front of me says my name.

"Tonight, we're here with some of the members from the recent hit rock band, Corkshift! How are you all feeling tonight?"

The rest of my bandmates all smile and clap, we're excited to talk about ourselves. Although I don't really show it that much, I am too.

Not everyone could make it tonight, but tonight sitting with me are Juno, Rome, and Cam. But Cam isn't really in the band itself, she just kinda manages it. The fans treat her like she is, though.

The interviewer asks each of us different, yet eerily personal questions. "Did you really break your hand that first week of playing in the band?" for Juno. "Why'd you drop out of college?" for Rome. "What's it like to manage these guys?" for Cam.

Then my question.
"Since you were one of the first members, how did you meet everyone?"

I pause then scratch my head. I don't really like to talk about the past. Not necessarily because I don't like it, but because I don't like how fast time flies. Unfortunately, I can't just not answer. Not on this talkshow.

The memories begin to flood my brain, starting with Cam. The date is November 26, 1989. I had just finished high school that year and I had no plans of going to college. On top of that, I had no money, no job, and no stable home. I wasn't really sad about it or anything, I was used to it by then. That's just how life can be, y'know?

I remember I had just left work. It was some crappy low income job anyone in their early twenties would work. Trust me when I say, I was really not that interesting before the band.

Anyway, I was getting on the train that evening, and I very vividly remember that Cam was shouting in the station stuff like "Does anyone know how to play an instrument?". I mean, it was oddly direct, but I had nothing to do and I was barely scraping by, so what's the harm right?

I walked over to her and tapped her on the shoulder. The second I said "I play bass guitar." Cam's eyes lit up like a firework.

"Oh that's great!! Listen, me and my buddy Juno have a project coming up for our college class and it would mean SOSOSOSO much if you could help us out? We'll even pay you."

I wasn't really digging it till they started talking about money. I mean, like I said, I was a broke 24 year old. I would do pretty much anything to get money that wasn't working at a chain place. That's not an exaggeration by the way, if someone told me to get on my knees I probably would've..

Time skip to like, three days later, and there we are. All 8 of us, in a random garage helping these strangers finish some fucking college project. Well actually it was all of us except Yoyo. She didn't join till like, I think 6 months later.

Anyway, 3 years later here we are. One of the biggest rock bands of the 90's, on a talkshow. If I'm honest, I wouldn't want it any other way either. Everyday I hang with those losers, I smile. I smile for a long time too, they make me happy.
